Gracias, vecina. O perdón, todavía no sé.

Hello, Hive! I Got Here Thanks to Neighborhood Gossip

The reason I'm here is my neighbor danielucha@danielucha. She has been on Hive for a good while and told me about it with the face of someone guarding a state secret. And I, who can't hear "you can earn income from Cuba" without going off to investigate, ended up creating an account. Thanks, neighbor. Or sorry, I haven't decided yet.

Now, who am I? I'm Cuban and an only child, which in photographic terms means there are pictures of me to spare: as a baby, as a little girl and as I am now. My parents had nobody else to point the camera at, so it all landed on me.

This one is my favorite. I had just been given the bike and the doll sitting in the little basket, and I was pedaling with everything I had so I wouldn't fall, even with both training wheels on. The doll, I confess, was there only for the photo. She honestly scared me.

My days are simple. Afternoons belong to the gym, and the rest of the time goes between the kitchen, which I love, and music, mostly reparto, a Cuban urban genre, in case you're coming from outside.

In the kitchen I make a bit of everything. I grab any recipe, follow the steps, give it a go and let it turn out however it turns out. With time I get the hang of it. What I make best are maripositas chinas, little fried dough butterflies that are very Cuban, and fried rice, so you'll see them here more than once.

I also have my fancier side. The beauty world fascinates me: hair mask, face mask and, sometimes, both at once without asking anyone's permission. Taking care of myself and keeping pretty is my official sport; the gym is just the add-on.

When it's time to rest, I'm into series and movies. I like them so much that I have an opinion on everything I watch, asked or not, so you can guess where the reviews are headed. Every now and then I also get hooked on a romance novel, the kind that leaves you staring at the ceiling once you finish it.

My weakness, since we're confessing, is opening things: gifts, packages, boxes. If a box shows up at home my day is made, and I open it with more excitement than I'd admit in public. I also love shopping and story times, so expect me to tell things with every last detail.

Around here you'll find personal blogs, reviews of places, series and movies, recipes and a bit of everything. The plan is to post every day, always in Spanish first and English after, so nobody is left standing at the door. If you've ever opened a box and felt like it was Christmas, stay: I'm trying to make every post feel like that. And if you haven't, stay anyway, because those maripositas won't eat themselves.

All photos are from my personal and family archive.
