Being foodie without being "drinkie" isn't possible at least in my case, and I am not talking about alcohol ;) in that name, considering that the beet season is in full swing and this is my first contribution to the community - let's make juice!
I can list a thousand reasons why beetroot is good for our body, but I'm pretty sure that you are all already familiar with it, I'll just say - it should be on your plate, or in this case, in your glass, every day.
As a child, I struggled with anemia for a long time, my mother forced me to eat everything in order to improve the results (mainly the least desirable things to find on the children's menu), among all that there was also beetroot. I wasn't particularly in love with it either, until... well, until the moment I started preparing my own meals.
Until today...
The recipe is more than simple, there are no additional additives or preservatives, just pure delicious juice!
You will need two large beets, one cup of water, a blender or if you don't have one, use grater. Wash the fruits well, peel them, chop them, put them in a blender, add water and blend them at the lowest speed until each piece turns into a puree.
I had about a kilogram of beets at my disposal, I added water approximately (perhaps even less than recommended, half a liter), after blending, pour into a container with a lid and let it stand for 24 hours in a cooler place.
You will notice a lot of pulp, it seemed even a little worryingly to me, that there will be more waste than juice.
24 hours later, the juice is ready for straining, I used a sifter for sifting flour, and you can also use a cotton cloth in case you don't have one.
Many people don't like beets because of their intense earthy taste, I personally don't mind it, but to improve the taste add raspberries, carrots, apples, literally anything you can think of.
What about pulp? Throw it away or use it? Of course, you can use the pulp after a good squeeze, leave it to dry, then grind it into powder and use it as an addition to shakes and drinks, also because of its strong pigment, it can be used in coloring (Easter eggs, pasta, materials)
Evenly distributed pulp, protected with baking paper, ready for proper sunbathe.
(baking paper is a protection against annoying flies)
The total amount of juice obtained is slightly more than 1 liter. Let's say that the proportions are half pure juice, half water, with the cold pressing technique, I would probably get about half a liter (but that's something I'm yet to try)
Pour the juice into a sterilized bottle and store it in the refrigerator. Juice made like this without added preservatives cannot be kept for a long time, so I came up with the idea of freezing it.
Containers or bags for ice are the ideal solution, you will get the serving portions in advance, and for daily consumption you do not need more than 100ml.
When is the best time to consume?
Whenever!
But your body will get the most benefits if you do it in the morning, before meals, on an empty stomach.
A few sips will make sure to regulate blood sugar, increase serotonin, strengthen your bones and improve your skin.
I guess now you have a lot of good reasons why should you give a chance to this delicious drink. (;
Enjoy it!🍷
