Doing vs Making.
It's interesting that we never say "doing progress", we say "making progress", and that's because progress is not something that you do it's something that you create by taking action.
So if you want to make progress, do something that moves you forward.

What it means to make progress.
If you're going somewhere, it means there is less distance to cover.

If you have a goal, it means you're getting closer to achievement.

If you have a project, it means you're getting closer to completion.

If you yourself are getting better, it means you have more chances to succeed.

Usually when people say "I want to make progress", what they actually mean is:

"I need a sense of hope that I can achieve this" "I want to know that my efforts matter"
"I want to know that I can influence where things go"

Progress is feedback on your efforts.
When things are moving it could mean that you are doing something right, and that your actions somehow matter.

Progress is a positive response from reality itself, and that gives you the hope you can achieve it, the motivation and the drive to continue.

Efforts require an investment of energy on our part, and it's progress that gives us the green light to justify spending that energy.

But the problem is that progress is not always visible. You might be doing everything right but still find it hard to see any signs of progress.
In the absence of that positive reinforcement not a lot of people will continue.

This can be seen even more evidently, into how quickly people get disappointed and quit.

But if you don't see progress, that doesn't mean there is none, It could mean that you're not looking in the right place.

Inserting a delay between effort and results.
Be very eager to take action and very patient with seeing results.
When you continue to invest ferociously, make efort your primary focus you can almost feel you are making progress, and that will be all you need to continue.
