Gbeogo is a village community in the upper east region of Ghana located specifically in the northeast of Bolgatanga. It is located in the Talensi district of upper west municipality.
We were on a school field project practical, and we were a group of ten from different departments offering different programs. Our 6 weeks stay in Gbeogo was not a boring one, as we initially anticipated while we were on campus. As we were in the Gbeogo community doing our research, we got to realize that the district capital Tongo is not very far from Gbeogo. We had already heard a lot of stories about tongo township and a beautiful rocky nature. He heard it was a very nice and interesting place to visit. So we decided as a group to visit the community on one weekend.
Brief history of Tongo community.
Tongo is a community located near the Upper East region Capital of Bolgatanga.
Tongo is the capital district of the talensi district in the upper east region of the northern part of Ghana. Tongo is known of the "tengzug shrine" for its sowing and festivals. It is believed that the tongo people of the talensi tengzuk hills have been living there for centuries. The majority of the people living in the area are engaged in agriculture. In late October of every year, they perform the Boar Dam festival to celebrate the harvest. The festival is also centered on the Ba'ar tonna'ab ya'nee shrine and other telansi ancestral shrines within the community.
On that weekend, we move through out the community visit all the nices places within the community. The most interesting part of the festivals takes place in the evening and continues in the night.
All the traditional songs and dance activities are been carried out at night, and the traditional sacrifice and prayers are also done in the night at exactly 12:oo am.
The beautifully appearing rocky nature of the community's landscape makes it admirable.
