Morrocoy National Park in Venezuela is located in Falcón State, a place quite far from where I live. Lately, I thought it would be impossible to visit because this year has been pretty rough for me overall, and I hadn’t been able to fulfill my dream of going to this park, which has many beaches and various cays, each with a different shade of water. Yesterday I was finally able to see it in person; I got to witness just how beautiful this national park and each of its beaches are. Although for many people this might be a familiar sight, for me it’s completely new—I had NEVER seen a sea as beautiful and clear as the ones I saw yesterday. I enjoyed every moment there, and honestly, I didn’t even want to leave.
This was a somewhat long family trip, but one filled with beautiful scenery. Our adventure began at 6 a.m. when we left Caracas headed for Morrocoy. I thought we’d get there in an hour or two, but it actually took us quite a while—we arrived around 11 a.m. However, during the drive, we got to see some very pretty places and a beautiful sunrise that hinted at what an incredible day it would be.
After many hours of sleeping, laughing, and talking, we finally arrived at the “path to happiness.” My husband’s aunt, who was traveling with us, told us that this stretch was called that, though she didn’t explain why. I can only assume it’s because it’s the road that finally leads to the beaches and the areas where you catch the boats. Plus, it’s a beautiful road lined with palm trees—it didn’t even feel like Venezuela. It really looked gorgeous, and I took this photo, which, interestingly, turned out as if it had a filter, but it didn’t— it’s just that my camera was acting up at the time, and I accidentally captured a very 2011 Tumblr-style image.
And of course, we took some photos along that path to happiness.
We got to the most shocking part because I didn’t know I’d have to take a boat—I’m pretty clueless. I really thought the beaches were already there without having to take a boat. I was a nervous wreck, and as soon as I got on board, I felt dizzy. It took a while to get going, and the boat’s movement on the water felt awful, but once it took off, it was even worse. my husband and I held hands, totally terrified. Luckily, nothing serious happened—it was just a scare—but it felt very intense. At some point, I got used to it and let my body go with the boat’s motion, and I started to appreciate the scenery more and more. I noticed that the sea changed colors in different spots—in some places it was dark blue, in others light blue, and in other areas it was a super deep, intense blue and turquoise. It was a sight to behold, and I loved every single one of its phases.
The deep blue color had me mesmerized, and the water was really warm; the sand was very soft, and it wasn't very deep, so it was safe for the kids. I jumped right into the ocean—I couldn't wait to touch the water and play with my son since it had been so long since we'd been to a beach. We were both so happy and excited.
And while we thought the day was beautiful, the sunset was even more breathtaking—we could see a vast, beautiful sky filled with clouds of many shapes and contrasts. I was so sad to leave; I swear I want to stay and live there. I love the sea and everything it represents; to me, it’s one of the most beautiful things in life, even if it’s dangerous.
The beautiful views here, combined with the perfect company of your family, make for a truly special day. I’ll never forget my visit to this beautiful state, and I hope to return soon—especially since we stayed at a place where the service was incredible. People here are generally very friendly and playful, so the atmosphere is super relaxed. Well, that was my weekend adventure—a place I thought I wouldn’t be able to visit this year even though it was part of my plans. I’m so happy to have fulfilled this dream, and now I can die in peace, haha.
