I've never actually seen a rhinoceros in my life. I only know what a rhinoceros looks like from magazines or on TV. I've never been to a safari park that showcases wild animals, as there is no such park in our city, even though I live in Sumatra鈥攈ome to the Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), a protected and endangered species.
I noticed a rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros) on rotten wood yesterday. It was like seeing a miniature rhinoceros. The horn, the texture of the shield with rough spots, and the beetle's features mimic a real rhinoceros. And what I wanted to do most at that moment was to stroke the horn.
