In spring and summer, I wake up early in the morning and go out on the balcony. I sit on a kids' chair that my daughter used to use when she was a toddler. I look at the plants while drinking warm water.
I felt an irresistible urge to install strings for bitter gourds and malabar spinaches, so I started it at in a way strange time, early in the weekday morning. Last year and the year before, I bought a net and hung it up, but before that I used hemp strings for the same purpose, so this year I decided not to buy a net and use hemp strings for the climbers.
I found a good old photo. The strings lasted well even they didn't have any synthetic fiber.
I use a reach extender (funnily we call it "Magic Hand" in Japanese) that I bought two years ago when we moved in to the current apartment and put up the netting. I think it cost about only 3 or 4 euros, but it is quite useful. I keep it hidden because if my daughter finds it, it will be her toy ... 😁
I put a weight on the end of the hemp string and put it through a hook of magnets.
The work was going well, but I ran out of hemp strings 😅 I will buy some more and plan to finish the work this week and plant the bitter melons over the weekend.
I'm happy to see the bitter melons seem to be in good mood and get ready to be in the final position.

春夏は朝起きてバルコニーに出るのが日課です。子供が赤ちゃん時代に使っていたおもちゃの椅子に座って、お白湯を飲んみながら植物を眺めます。
ゴーヤとツルムラサキのために無性にネットを張りたくなり、平日早朝という変な時間にネットを張り始めてしまいました。去年と一昨年は専用のネットを買って吊っていたのですが、その前はガーデニング用の麻紐で代用していたので、今年は麻紐を張って蔓性の植物が登っていけるようにすることにしました。
懐かしい写真が出てきました。こんな感じで、化学繊維が入っていないにもかかわらず、切れてしまうこともなく、しっかりゴーヤを支えてくれました。
一昨年ネットを張った時に購入したマジックハンドを使います。確か3、4ユーロほどだったのですが、なかなか便利なのです。子供にみつかると確実におもちゃにされるので隠してあります😁
紐の先に重石をつけて、強化マグネットのフックに通していきます。
作業は順調だったのですが、途中で麻紐がなくなってしまいました 😅 麻紐とマグネットを買い足して、今週ネットを張り終えて、週末にゴーヤを植える計画です。ゴーヤは元気にいい色の力強い本葉を出して、根鉢を張って、植え替えに備えているようです。
高いところにあるフックに紐をうまく通せるか確信がなかったのですが、思っていたように作業が進んでよかったです。
最近読んだ坂口恭平さんの新刊『生き延びるための事務』で、「将来の夢」ではなくて「将来の現実」を描くという作業が出てくるのですが、そこで以下のような一節があります。
作家になりたいなんて口走るのではなくて、毎日5時に起きて、9時まで原稿を書き続けたいと、言えばいいんです。作家になるってそういうことです。
何かをし続ければ、もうそれになっているのですよね。私も「ガーデナーになりたい」ではなくて「毎日楽しく植物と生きよう」と思うのでした。オーストリアで研究・製作をするきっかけになったメディアアートの美術館の館長さんも「アーティストですって言って、制作していたらアーティストだよ」と言っていました。

本を書いてお金を稼ぐことではありません。それは断じて違います。
たしかに。でも、去年私がコミュニティガーデンのメンテナンスで毎月まとまった報酬をもらえたように、お金って多分ついてくるんですよね。
今日はこれから唐辛子を植え替えて、昨日見かけて気になっていたワサビの苗を買いに行って、ホームセンターを見に行って、午後晴れたらコミュニティガーデンのコンテナの手入れもするので、多分私は立派なガーデナー・・・なはず 😁
