Did you ever fall in love?
When I first saw her, I didn’t find her that much attractive. She was just my classmate and I was expecting nothing, except to spend two quiet years of study in the same college with her. We didn’t talk much but one day I needed her notes for an assignment, and she helped me happily. That small act changed everything. We slowly became friends, and her kindness, humor, and warmth began to attracting me towards her.
One afternoon in the library, I finally confessed my feelings to her and even asked her to marry me. I was expecting that she would be glad to know this but she walked away without a word. She didn’t come to college for a few days, and when she returned, she acted as if nothing had happened. However, I not so normal while interacting with her.
One evening, she approached me in the gym with a rose in her hand. Before I could understand what it meant, she told me the truth. She told that she had cancer, and only a few months had left of her life. She asked me to forget her, insisting she couldn’t love anyone because her time was short and she didn't want to make anyone sad.
The news shattered me, but she tried to stay cheerful, even invited me to a small party that night. Watching her smile through her pain made me realize what I truly wanted. I told her I still wanted to marry her and nothing can change my mind. She was shocked, but eventually, she agreed.
We spent our remaining days together in studying, talking, laughing, pretending as if everthing was normal. But, her disease was increasing. Some days she was full of energy, while on other occasions, she could barely stand. But she always held my hand, while trying hard to hide her pain and sufferings.
When her strength finally faded, she left this world quietly, leaving behind a love that changed me forever. I didn’t lose her. I carry her memories always with me. Those memories always guide me and help me to become a more responsible person.
Thanks!
