"Finally... I have a new pet!
To be honest, this is the first time I've ever kept a Red-eared Slider turtle. So far I've only watched YouTube videos about how people take care of them, and now it's finally my turn."
The Beginning of Meeting 3 Little Red-eared Sliders
So the story is, a while ago I randomly went to the animal market in the capital city of Central Java province. At first, I just wanted to look at birds.
But then I saw 3 tiny turtles. And my heart just melted instantly
They were so small, only about 5cm, and their little movements were so cute and funny, It made me want to take them home right away. So I asked the price... and guess what? It was only $6 for all 3 of them!
I didn’t even bargain, I just bought them right away
I asked the seller for 2 females and 1 male. But honestly, I have no idea how to tell which is male and which is female yet. I guess I’ll learn together with you guys!"
"Short Vlog: My First Day With Them"
As soon as I got home, I immediately prepared a temporary home using a clear plastic box, I was afraid they’d run away, so I only filled it with a little bit of water first.
Look at this photo
The three of them are in the box, swimming around, they’re so active! Some are climbing, some are diving.
Then I tried holding them one by one with my hands. Oh my gosh... they’re so cute!
Their shells are still small, smooth, and a beautiful dark green color. When I flipped one over, the bottom of the shell had cute little circle patterns too.
After that, I moved them to a bigger bucket so they could swim more freely, you could tell they were so happy there. They were swimming around in circles like they were on a little pool tour
Their First Meal
I also bought special turtle food right away. The brand is SANKURA TURTLE PELLET. This product is from China. On the back it says it’s for shell growth and to keep them healthy, When I sprinkled it into the box, they didn’t come to eat!
Maybe they were stressed, so before I put them in the white box, I first kept them in a black bucket for 3 days to help them get over the stress.
And today is day 6 since I’ve been keeping them, i think the 3 turtles are starting to eat now, because every day when I change their water, I can see turtle poop in there , that means their digestion is working, right?"
"Lesson of the Day
This is a totally new experience for me.
Turns out, keeping turtles also needs a lot of attention. The water has to be clean, they need sunlight, and their meals have to be on schedule.
I still have so much to learn., If any of my friends here on Hive are seniors at keeping Red-eared Slider turtles, please feel free to share your tips in the comments
What food is the best? What does the ideal tank look like? I really need your knowledge.
For now, I just want to enjoy this process.
Seeing these 3 little creatures already makes my day so much brighter.
Please pray that they stay healthy and grow up fast.
I’ll update their progress here on Ecency again soon
Thanks for reading my little story today
