Let me share a little bit of nostalgia.
The Year Was 2003, 5th Grade.
I still remember it clearly. After school, I would always run to my cousin’s house.
Not because there was good food.
But because of one thing: Nintendo.
We’d sit on the floor in front of a tube TV, sharing one controller, fighting over who got to play Super Mario.
The loser got black charcoal drawn on their face and the winner kept playing until mom yelled at us to go take a bath.
Back then we only had one mission: save Princess Peach from Bowser.
The graphics were all blocky, and that "ting ting" sound when we collected coins? That was pure heaven.
And now... 20 years have passed.
2026, I open my Android phone
And guess what I found? SUPER MARIO RUN
At first I was shocked like "Wait, Mario is on mobile now?" so I downloaded it, and instantly I was back in 2003 again.
WHAT'S IT LIKE PLAYING MARIO ON MOBILE?
Honestly it’s very different from Nintendo but the feeling is still the same.
One-Hand Gameplay
On Nintendo we pressed A, B, and the D-pad, but in Super Mario Run Mario runs by himself and you just tap to jump. It felt weird at first but now it’s addictive, perfect for playing while waiting for Shopee orders
INSANE Graphics
Look at these screenshots, the sky is so blue, the grass is so green, and Bowser’s castle in the distance. It’s miles away from the blocky graphics of 2003, but that "da daaa" coin sound is still the same and that’s what gives me chills.
Addictive World Tour Mode
There’s World 1 to World 6 and each level has 5 purple coins to collect. I’m currently on World 1-1 with 65 coins, still far from 100%, There’s also a mode to build your own Mushroom Kingdom so it’s not just running.
Nostalgia + Modern
The Goombas are still stubborn, the green pipes are still shortcuts, and the finish line flag is still there. Everything I loved as a kid is here, the only difference is now I can play it lying in bed.
CONCLUSION FROM A 90s KID
Mario isn’t just a game, he’s a memory of running to the game rental shop, fighting over controllers, and screaming "DON’T DIE YET!"
After 20 years he’s moved into the palm of our hands, no Nintendo needed, no TV needed, just a phone.
If you miss your childhood you have to try Super Mario Run, I guarantee after 5 minutes you’ll be like "Holy crap, this is my little Mario again."
