There are at least fifty movies that have changed my life in one way or another. Few are those that have changed my life as an adult, but I can speak with great certainty of the experiences I had in my childhood and adolescence with movies I saw with my family, my father, my friends or even by myself on television. Movies like Interstellar 55555 that I remember watching at least six times because my brother had it downloaded on Ares and when he didn't have internet he watched it, or movies like A Clockwork Orange that when I was only 13 years old was being shown on TV and my dad wanted us to watch it together.
Now I'm dating someone, and one of the things I like about being together with someone is being able to show them this kind of stuff and see their reaction, because, somehow it makes me think that they are getting to know the part of me that they will never get to know, the childhood we never shared, the childhood we never played in. So, a few days ago we watched Surf up, and the truth is that I still think it is one of the best animated movies ever made. Partly it has to do because penguins are one of my favorite animals, but the whole concept of surf up is something too smart and innovative within animation, which makes the movie enjoyable for anyone who watches it.
Cody Maverick is an amazing character and the cast of characters is interesting all around. The chicken and many of the characters (including Cody) are an archetype that has been seen a lot, but that doesn't mean they are bad, but, from my perspective, quite the opposite, as they find a way to turn something that has been seen many times before. And well, it's obvious that I love the movie, but I really don't plan to extend in a surf up review because I feel that everyone has already seen it, however, I do want to say that now, with a clearer mind, I realize that it's not just a fun animated movie and that's it, but it's really a good movie with some interesting shots, a good soundtrack and a story perhaps obvious, but told in a curious way.
And what did the girl think about the movie? Well, she certainly liked it, although she didn't think it was a big deal, but that wasn't the point. In your mid twenties watching a movie about surfing penguins is no big deal, that's true, but when I was a kid and finished watching the movie and went to play the game on ps2, I felt something amazing; and I'm sure that didn't happen only with me and not only with that movie, I'm sure everyone has an anecdote or memories with movies that are “no big deal” but still are inside you.

Hay al menos cincuenta películas que han cambiado mi vida de una u otra forma. Pocas son las que han cambiado mi vida ya de adulto, pero puedo hablar con mucha certeza de las experiencias que tuve en mi niñez y en mi adolescencia con películas que vi con mi familia, mi padre, mis amigos o incluso yo solo en la televisión. Películas como interstellar 55555 que recuerdo haberla visto al menos unas seis veces pues mi hermano la tenía descargada en Ares y cuando no tenía internet la veía, o películas como la naranja mecánica que con tan solo 13 años la estaban pasando en la televisión y mi papá quiso que la viéramos juntos.
Ahora estoy saliendo con alguien, y una de las cosas que me gusta de estar junto a una persona es poder mostrarle este tipo de cosas y ver su reacción, ya que, de alguna forma me hace pensar que está conociendo la parte de mí que nunca llegará a conocer, la infancia que no compartimos, la niñez en la que nunca jugamos. Por eso, hace unos días vimos Surf up, y la verdad es que sigo pensando que es una de las mejores películas animadas que se han hecho en la historia. En parte tiene que ver porque los pingüinos son de mis animales favoritos, pero es que todo el concepto de surf up es algo demasiado inteligente e innovador dentro de la animación, lo que hace que la película sea disfrutable para cualquier persona que la vea.
Cody Maverick es un personaje increíble y la verdad es que el cast de personajes es interesante por todos lados. El pollo y muchos de los personajes (incluyendo a Cody) son un arquetipo que se ha visto mucho, pero eso no significa que sean malos, sino, desde mi perspectiva, todo lo contrario, ya que encuentran como darle la vuelta a algo que se ha visto muchas veces. Y bueno, es obvio que la película me encanta, pero la verdad no pienso extenderme en una crítica de surf up porque siento que ya todos la han visto, sin embargo, si quiero decir que ahora, con la mente más clara, me doy cuenta de que no es solo una película de animación divertida y ya, sino que es realmente una buena película con unas tomas interesantes, un buen soundtrack y una historia tal vez obvia, pero contada de forma curiosa.
¿Y qué pensó la chica sobre la película? Pues ciertamente le gustó, aunque no le pareció la gran cosa, pero ese no era el punto. A mediados de tus veintes ver una película sobre pingüinos que surfean no es la gran cosa, eso es cierto, pero cuando era un niño y terminaba de ver la película para ir a jugar su juego en ps2, yo sentía algo increíble; y estoy seguro de que eso no pasó solo conmigo y no solamente con esa película, estoy seguro de que todos tienen una anécdota o recuerdos con películas que “no son la gran cosa” pero aun así están dentro de ti.
