Have you ever watched a movie that made you think about it for days after finishing it?
I have always found it interesting how a movie can be just two or three hours long, yet somehow stay in your mind for years.
Sometimes it is because of the story. Sometimes it is because of a particular character. Other times, it is simply the feeling the movie gives you.
There are movies that make you laugh so much that you remember them whenever you need something funny. There are movies that make you emotional even when you already know what is going to happen. And there are movies that leave you staring at the screen after the credits because you are still trying to understand what you just watched.
One of my favorite things about movies is how different people can watch the exact same film and have completely different opinions about it.
One person might say, “This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.”
Another person might watch the same movie and say, “I don’t understand why everyone likes this.”
And honestly, both people can be right.
Movies are personal.
Our experiences influence the way we understand stories. A character might seem annoying to one person but relatable to another. A scene might seem ordinary to someone but remind another person of something from their own life.
I also think that the time when you watch a movie matters.
A movie you watched when you were younger might feel completely different when you watch it as an adult. You may understand the characters better. You may notice themes you completely missed before.
This happens a lot with movies that deal with family, relationships, ambition and growing up.
When you are younger, you might only focus on the exciting parts. Years later, you start noticing the deeper meaning behind certain decisions.
Then there are those movies that you watch simply because everyone is talking about them.
Sometimes the hype is justified.
Sometimes it isn’t.
You see people online calling a movie a masterpiece, so you finally watch it expecting something incredible. Then the movie ends and you are sitting there wondering what everyone was talking about.
Other times, you have absolutely no expectations and end up discovering one of your favorite movies.
That is why I enjoy exploring movies instead of only watching the biggest releases.
There are so many underrated films that never receive the same attention as popular blockbusters. Some of them have incredible stories, performances and ideas but simply don’t become mainstream.
Streaming has also changed the way we discover movies. We no longer have to wait for a movie to appear on television or go to the cinema every time. With a few clicks, we can find movies from different countries, languages and cultures.
That has made the world of movies much bigger.
At the end of the day, I think the best movies are the ones that make you feel something.
You might laugh.
You might cry.
You might get angry.
You might become attached to a character.
Or you might simply sit there thinking about the story long after it has finished.
And maybe that’s the real magic of movies.
They don’t just show us stories.
Sometimes, they give us memories.
