you will take tea many time in your life but people in the UK are very traditional when it comes to tea. Although we appreciate that many nationalities prefer to drink it without any dairy additions, to most British people our hot drink of choice should come served with a splash of milk and possible a spoon of sugar, and that's it.
It may seem like a trivial matter, but in a country that many observers see as being increasingly divided about its cultural identity and political future, the little things that bring everyone together certainly gain significance.
Anyway, I write all of this to give our non-British readers a taste of quite how seriously the British take their tea.
Now, however, theirs a new tea trend on the horizon, and it's fair to say that Brits are baffled by it.
Cheese tea originated in Taiwan at the start of the decade, and is now a growing trend in the rest of China and further afield.
It involves topping a normal cup of tea with either powdered or cream cheese, and apparently results in a balanced flavour.
News of the drink has recently come to a British audience courtesy of social media and several newspapers, and the comments sections have gone into over drive.
We think that Alison Hodgeheg sums it up best:
''I love a cuppa and cheese, but please don't put the two together!''
