I've heard about this a couple years ago let's see if this thing is still legit guys with all the new crypto currencies that are developed and released last year can be easy to lose sight of some of the lesser-known and older ones they should be not so quickly overlooked however as some of them have extremely interesting ideas worth exploring one that I've been looking into recently is called grid coin our GRC says it author so what is grid coin grid coin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that was launched in October of 2013 wow I didn't know it was launched so Wow October of 2013 it's been around guys it's been around the block I mean October 2013 that means it's been around it's been around just as long as aetherium has been around it's currently ranked 313 online coin Puffs calm and is worth about 6 cents like most coins that followed Bitcoin in the last few years GRC has had a strong focus on the environmental impact of mining it's coming back to me now grid coin attempts to distribute new coins in a fairly unique way proof of research rather than miners competing to discover a nonce Network contributors are rewarded for contributing their computational power to solving scientific computations only Berkeley open infrastructure for network computing on or Bionic it also uses a proof of stake scheme grid coins supply schedule is a bit more complex than that of most crypto currencies because of the former's unique hybrid consensus algorithm the overall 6.5 inflation rate is the sum of 5% from research payments for contributing computational effort in 1.5 for staking and securing the network no wonder how much you need to stake the project's creator is Rob Halford and it uses the similar MIT license for open source of projects it is a fair amount of commits on its github repository which is something I always like to see from a project with 33 contributors I like to see that as well the more contributors and the more commits to a github doesn't mean that it's a legit coin it just means that there's some potentially very active community behind it which is always a good thing its website and logo have also undergone a bit of a revamp since I heard about this project a few years ago the site is helpful in getting everything set up and to get started but also links to its community and presences what this author loves about grid coin is that it's focused on working towards the common good through cryptocurrency and cryptography too often we see individuals and actors in this space acting entirely selfishly hmm however contributing to Greek coin often means contributing to Bionic which means contributing to a whole slew of worthwhile projects incentivizing pooled resources for the greater good is something I can really get behind for obvious reasons I think this is the direction a lot of research institutions will be going in augmenting their centralized compute computational resources with decentralized networks it would not only add power to the networks but also further secure the research in the event of central failure it just makes sense well guys I can agree with that last particular statement I agree that decentralizing data is a good thing to do for every single company in the world the problem with centralized data storage is well once it hacked guess what everything's lost but if it's decentralized and secured through the blockchain then guess what it's not going to be as easily hacked let's put it that way but good coin doesn't get me guessin doesn't give me a tingle in my pod geez if you know what I mean so I'm gonna throw this right back to you guys in the Bitcoin dot pub or the comments section below let me know why grid coin should be on your grid in 2018 is this something worth looking into or is this one of those older coins that still should just stay old I don't know you let me know & smash the like button for mining which in my opinion it doesn't really have an environmental impact I think that's just some propaganda that people like to say coal is still a good thing
