Finally got my Oman sponsored FIFA World Cup 2026 Silver commemorative coin. Since a long time, hubby was trying for it. Oman Government has come out with these limited-edition commemorative FIFA silver coins and they are so much limited in numbers. Totally only 5000 coins have been minted and of the 5000 it is said that only 1000 are available for domestic market and the rest will be for the international markets, so definitely it's not easy to get them because almost everyone wants it. They are available at one of the Bank and a Post Office, but if you directly go there, you will be told they are already sold out. Hubby managed to get it through one of his local friends.
The coin is a fusion of national identity and the global tournament. On one side it has a picture of the Omani dhow (boat) sailing, a picture of FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy and the Omani Flag. On the other side is the primary national symbol of Oman which is two crossed swords behind a curved dagger, known as a Khanjar. They represent defense, strength and tribal heritage.
The face value of this coin is 1 Omani Rial which is around 2.60 USD and 250 INR. It's the face value, not the purchase value. The purchase value of the coin is around 73 OMR, which is 190 USD and 18000 INR. The weight of the coin is 28.28 grams. If I have to purchase raw silver then this would cost me only around 20 OMR, which is less then 1/3rd of the value. Of course, it's a numismatic coin so it has its own value. This is my second Oman commemorative silver coin, not of FIFA, that has been another one. I like to collect these coins. Have quite a few of these coins purchased back in India also. May be someday I will share them.
For now, this is what I got added to my collection.
