SOURCE CLIMATE CHANGE COFFEE
I found a coffee brand that ticks the most socially conscious boxes of any brand I’ve ever encountered. The company itself is called “Source” and the coffee brand is ‘Climate Change” coffee. The company is determined to make coffee a sustainable commodity while making it a fair crop for the farmers and a safe commodity for the environment. That’s all well and good, but does it taste good?
I got three “flavours”. I guess I can call them that since the coffee is always “single origin” and the original taste characteristics are preserved. They are Mexico, Uganda and Rwanda. In the video below, I tasted the Uganda one since I’d never had coffee from Uganda before.
As mentioned in the video, the flavour is reminiscent of Kenyan coffee, perhaps unsurprisingly given the geographical location of Uganda, which is my joint favourite taste along with Ethiopian. Again, Ethiopia is to the direct north of Kenya, much like Uganda is to her west. There is no doubt that the beans are virtually from a very similar crop.
Above all, it was nice to be able to just drop the used pod into my compost bin. Every pod should be made this way. I’m not sure what the disadvantages are - probably cost. Having said that, the packs cost me just over £2 per pack of 5, which is 40p per pod. That’s not much more expensive than other coffee pods of comparable quality that don’t use compostable material. Also, Source is a small company without the infinite money some of these other companies have.

I said in my previous post that I was going to try “Grind” coffee next. I haven’t gotten round to obtaining those pods, so maybe the next one :). I’m sure I can find a better tasting coffee that this, but considering the total package, this is a pretty high bar. Also, they do sell beans that are not ground or in pods. I’m willing to bet that those taste even better.
