MEMORY LANE ON THE BLOCKCHAIN
A selfie I took four years ago holding a Donald Trump chocolate I purchased in New York City. This was for a Steem post about my visit to NYC and encountering a lot of Trump things; tower, hotel, masks, e.t.c.
Going through my photos is like a big trip down memory lane. Sometimes I get a little nostalgic about the photos I find. It's also a very good measure of how things have changed.
The photos I usually take are with a dedicated camera, or the back camera of a phone. Some people fundamentally use their front-facing "selfie" camera. These people's portfolio mainly consists of, as expected, selfies. Selfies are not useless, if you truly enjoy looking at your own face so much. They're also a good measure of how much you've changed over time.
I do intentionally take selfies, usually to go along with a video or text post I make on here, but not just for the fun of it. My photos are usually of abstract things, city scapes - with or without people, and total randomness. They capture, often unintentionally, a story of time and change.
So in four years, some things have changed, and some things haven't.
DDead
Anyone remember DLive?. "DDead", as they eventually became known, was the other video platform on the blockchain back then. Following some dodgy shenanigans, the left us for a more centralised ecosystem featuring fake money. Good times. How things have changed.
What hasn't changed, though, is that 
Busy
Ah, I really loved Busy.org. It was a very nice condenser for the blockchain and immediately changed to it when I first found Steem. I don't know why, but it made posting a joy, plus they upvoted all our posts with their large account. Unfortunately they didn't survive the hostile takeover period. They were already struggling anyway, after having their delegation pulled by the centralising stake of Steemit inc. Happy days.
The two things that haven't changed since this photo are the computer, on which I'm typing this very post, and that mug, which is still my favourite and from which I drank this very morning.
Revolut
If you're new to this you may find it hard to believe that one of the only ways we could get money in and out of crypto in the UK back then involved having a Revolut account. Even then we had to first convert GBP to EUR, since Coinbase only listed against the Euro, and not Pounds Sterling.
Revolut was a lifesaver back then. I even used them as my main bank at some point, complete with an ATM card which I used happily in 3 continents during my travels. Sadly Revolut became a bit too much like a high street bank and I had to leave. Coinbase has also since listed GBP, so Revolut had become obsolete anyway.
One thing that hasn't changed, well not completely, is DTube! As an OG Dtuber I had the (old) logo permanently posted up in my workspace :). DTube has since moved to its own blockchain, Avalon, but still maintains relationship with Hive and Steem.
Talking of taking a trip down memory lane, a blockchain is perfect for that, being historically immutable. In fact, I remember watching a video by someone, when I first joined, talking about "authentic history beginning from the invention of Bitcoin". It went over most people's head, including mine at first, but I totally get what he meant. I wish I could find the video, but it's now lost in the IPFS oblivion like many of my early DTube videos.
These photos sparked my curiosity about some of the older projects that either departed from our blockchain, or just went quiet. I've been looking at some of them and I was surprised to find some that are still going strong. Hunt is one of such. In the process, I also found some projects that I didn't even realise existed, like some games on Hive. I wish I had more time to explore them all, but we only have 24 hours a day.
