🇺🇸Have you're ever come up with an idea and are sure it is a promising one, but over time – to your surprise – you hear or read that some random guy in a remote corner of the earth had the very same idea, but with one exception; he/she actually did something about it? Frustrating, right? How did he do it? A mere twist of fate? Did he/she have better connections? Did he/she have more resources than you? Did he/she have better education and/or team than you? It could well be, but it may be that the answer is simpler than we would like to think or are willing to accept.

Perhaps the difference between that person and us is that he had the guts to take action. Perhaps he/she was bold enough to not think so much about the risks of failure but of the rewards of success.

If you are like me then you dream constantly. You dream of things you want to build; a better car, a good education for your children, the upcoming holidays, and of course, how to create a better world, right?

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions. ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

According to me, what Mr. Emerson says is only partially true. I think that thought can be abused as a pseudo-psychology cliché typical of 90-second capsule motivational speakers on T.V. Why? My opinion is that the problem is not mainly in the lack of good ideas but is not having the courage and confidence to start working on them.

And apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so. According to Seth Godin in his books Poke the Box and Tribes, education, social status, connections, and amount of resources are important when you want to build on a project and new idea, but they are only secondary. According to his observations, what really matters in order to succeed and achieve your goals, regardless of the nature or size of the project (Dream), are the following; courage to get started, self-confidence, the love of adventure, joy for life, resilience and a lot of discipline.

True, every vision of a better future begins in our imagination. In our minds, we experiment with hypotheses, map plans, and visualize how to overcome obstacles. But it is also true that it is there that we lose the battle or we snatch the victory before we even step onto the battlefield. What will you choose today?
