A few Bits
Right then, it's time for a good old fashioned rant.
Today is the last day of our holidays and I had a few bits to pick up at the supermarket, well mainly just Semi skimmed milk, but when I got there I realised we needed more, so I grabbed the few bits as quickly as I could, although the milk proved particularly elusive and was akin to a game of Cluedo.
After guessing Mrs. Peacock in the Dining room with the candlestick and still being without milk, it was time to do what no man ever wants to do.
That's right, I shamed my family and all who went before me. I....
I....
I asked for directions! There I said it! Go on, cast your aspersions! In my pigeon Spanish I enquired dejecedtly:
Donde esta la leche fresca Por Favor?
Well if they were trying to hide the feckin milk, they did a mighty fine job, tucked away in the furthest reaches in a far away corner beside sweets and confectionery sat a little mini fridge with a small dabbling of Leche Fresca. At this stage,I could hardly pick up the milk, why?
Well, in my travels in search of said milk, I encountered Milka chocolate bars, some sweets for the kids, some toilet rolls, a nice bottle of local Rioja red wine and carried them on my exploration of the world's most confusing Supermarket, well at least from the perspective of a tired Irishman in search of Leche Fresca.
As I was about to pay, the person on front had some drain unblocker solution on the belt about to pay,(💡in my head) I thought would be handy, as the drains in the apartment were acting up, so I legged it back and grabbed a bottle for us.
I was greeted by a Mexican wave of raised Spanish eyebrows and intakes of breath, as I looked certain to cost a local four seconds of their precious time at five pm, by making a last minute dart for drain unblocker. Sacre bleu!!! Wrong country, I know, but ya get the idea!
I took off like Usain Bolt and as look would have it the first aisle beside me had the drain cleaner and I was back in the queue well before the person on front of me had paid and said Adios. I'm sure I didn't look at all smug as I landed back in the knick of time!
Now, to the real point of me post, the cost for my few bits which I accidentally acquired while in search of the most elusive of dairy products, let's recap, shall we:
A nice bottle of vino tinto ✔️
Sweets for the kids ✔️
2 Milka chocolate bars ✔️
The milk I went for ✔️
12 pack of toilet rolls
Drain cleaner ✔️
So a fair enough little haul of bits and pieces.
How much?
Right then, how much did the lot set me back??

That's right €12.44!!!
You'd easily pay twice as much for these products at home, in fact a decent bottle of red will cost €15 or more, so we are well and truly getting ripped off in Ireland for just about everything.
What's it like where you are?
Is €12.44 good value, expensive or just normal?
