I've been to few restaurants with friends and family and thought I would share my experience with you in case you decide to come and visit this amazing island we call "the closest island to Paradise".
All the places described here are sea front restaurants.
Stone Grill
The Stone Grill is one of the many restaurants that faces the ocean on the Promenade Roger Laroque at Anse Vata. As you walk on the pavement, you can see all the restaurants and just walk in or sit at a table that is on the edge of the pavement. At Stone Grill, you can choose your meat or seafood and cook it yourself on a hot stone.
The meat or seafood come with side dishes, as we were 4, we decided to order all the side dishes to share. Cooking yourself has the advantage to be able to control how cooked you like your meat. However, you come back home smelling food 🤣 but it is fun.
Bilboquet Plage
Also located in the same area as the Stone Grill, the Bilboquet Plage is one of the oldest restaurant of the Anse Vata. I came there with the family of a friend I haven't seen since 25 years ago. The food is very well prepared and we enjoyed our lunch. The waiters helped the kids cut their meat and come around tables to sing birthday songs to celebrating customers.
I had a Salade Tahitienne which is a salad made with coconut milk, fresh raw veggies and raw fish cooked in lemon juice.
My main course was a Tuna Sashimi.
My wife had a Magret de Canard (Duck breast with honey and lime).
Crêperie Le Rocher
A friend of mine from France, also came back to New Caledonia for Christmas. We managed to meet for breakfast at Le Rocher which does great pancake breakfast. The location at the top of a hill next to the Casino. You can have a wonderful view of Baie des Citrons beach. Enjoying the friends, we forgot to take shots of the food but I did get these two panoramic shots.
It's a great place to take some selfies and portraits.
Bodega Del Mar
Bodega Del Mar is a bar / restaurant at the beginning of the Anse Vata right next to the Chateau Royal beach where we like to go for a swim in late arvo. In the photo below, you can see that building on the water, it's The Roof restaurant and closer to the shore is another restaurant followed by the Bodega Del Mar that is connected to the pavement.
Bodega Del Mar is the perfect spot for a relaxing late afternoon drink with some friends. My friend Fred took me this afternoon right before sunset and the view was amazing.
All the spots by the water were taken already but you still can get some nice view from sitting inside.
You can have food and drinks and the ambiance is very nice.
Later at night, a band will come and provide some entertainment.
Amorino Ice Cream
There are two Amorino ice cream parlor, one in Baie des Citrons and one in Anse Vata. They make superbe Italian ice creams made of natural flavours and colouring. If you choose to have them in cones, then they will be made into a nice little flower.
