In today's Wednesday Walk I'm going to bring you with me to the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains, Clingmans Dome.
Last April hubby and I celebrated our 21st anniversary and went on the trip that was meant for our 20th...
...but being that it happened to fall at the very beginning of Covid mania and mandates we had to push it forward a year.
You can't visit the Smokies and not check this out!
Especially if you're anything like me who lives for breathtaking views of the Mother, our beloved Gaia.
You can drive your car to some great lookout points on the way, but if you want the spectacular you will have to take a walk.
Only half a mile, piece of cake right?
Would normally be, except this half a mile is the steepest grade I've ever been on that wasn't off road or mountain climbing!
Not to mention the high elevation wreaks a bit of havoc on the oxygen flow, so walk isn't quite accurate...
...it's a wee bit more of an "I think I can I think I can" trudge :0)
Fortunately everyone I saw on the way up was wheezing as much as I was, so embarrassment wasn't a factor.
And oh how worth it!
At 6,643 feet it's actually the highest point in Tennessee and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi.
I should also note that the walk back down is mostly a breeze, except the steepness tempts your legs to break out into a run- ill advised, high likelihood of a tumble.
On the way back down it was loads of fun to encourage the people huffing and puffing their way to the top :0)
Thanks for joining me on this Wednesday Walk, and don't forget to check out @tatooedjay and the many walks around the globe!
