Exploring our "Backyard" on a Kawasaki Versys

A few days ago I posted about unplugging myself for the weekend, and the break it gave my poor, overused brain.

I mentioned that the true refresher was spending the day on the back of hub's bike- my happy place- and I thought I'd share it with you while adding to my digital diary.

Which is what I realized this truly is in so many ways, as I've been documenting experiences that can be found here since 2016.

A photo journal that may one day cross paths with my progeny- or at least that is the hope :)

Days like this are a soothing balm to my itchy feet.

Unfortunately, this uploaded as a short so it's not just conveniently sitting here like a video would be- I filmed this from the back of the bike, it's such a pretty ride down by the lake :)

Does anyone know if there's a way to not make videos into shorts on YouTube? I wasn't given a choice, and it's weird, because I've had other few second vids upload regularly, so I'm not sure what the criteria is.

Anyway, along with a new, much more comfy seat, hubs also bought on-road/off road tires- which are pretty awesome, no trouble at all riding up the lawn :)

I told you guys about our bee dilemma, but we're not selling until he makes sure they've built up their numbers. A few of these hives are already booming with population, but mostly they're just starting to gain strength after the long winter.

We stopped for lunch at Mac's- this place has been around forever and they still operate much like they did in the fifties :)

I'm not usually a fan of root beer, but they make their own and it's fabulous! Creamy somehow, with the perfect amount of syrup.

There's something fantastic about music from that era, the atmosphere feels wholesome, I was transported to a simpler time.

(*This is what I'm talking about- It's only 11 seconds but for some reason it uploaded as a normal vid.)

I'm told the waitresses used to come out in rollerskates, and wow, as a former waitress who has also done her share of skating and blading, I am super impressed by the coordination that would have taken!

A ton of these cars came through while we were there, really adding to the ambience.

I don't know how often this happens, but it sure felt like it was just for us, the cherry on top!

Between the music, atmosphere and classic cars it was a true time warp :)

Once we were fueled up we took a trip down the other side of the lake and in through the back entrance of Sampson State Park.

Where we had a "small world" moment. A woman wearing a neon yellow vest came over to chat, telling us it was her checkpoint for the Seneca Sevens- a relay marathon consisting of teams of seven running 77 miles around the lakes.

In the course of conversation it turned out that we not only knew her son, but he was one of the guys who took Howie's crypto advice last year...and made a killing off of it :)

She was thrilled to meet the guy who helped her son, needless to say. Just one of those days that lets you know the universe is still on your side.

And off we went to the back roads of Hector, into the national forest...

It was our first time this year at the private camp :)

We had a little fire and I had a couple beers- Lakeshore fog is still my favorite for over a year now.

I never used to like IPA's, but this beer changed my mind. When you read juicy and hazy- this is what they should be talking about :)

None for the man of course, no drinking and driving for this guy. Especially operating a motorcycle, that's just comm sense...or at least I hope it is.

Next time we'll bring a thermos for coffee- water's great and all, but when you're sitting at a campfire it just requires either coffee or beer.

Ah, this sky, that's what I missed most in the winter! There's something that is both comforting and magical about skies like this.

We left just in time to catch the sunset, and wow, it was a beauty!

PXL_20220424_235041662.jpg

The absolute perfect topper on a perfect day!

I really need to remember my GoPro for the next time, it was a little precarious pulling out my phone to film haha!

More days like this one, that's my goal for the coming year!

It is definitely one way to Make it a Great Day!
