Walking around the Parliament of Hungary/Budapest

Dear Steemians! Hola Steemians!

Today I am writing this post from Budapest as we came to visit my family for a few days. We had some free time yesterday so we decided to go and do some sightseeing in the capital.

Unfortunately, January in Hungary is not the best time to do any kind of outdoor activity, as it is cold, rainy, dark and very miserable. That is why our adventure lasted for about 30 minutes. This is the perfect amount to have a walk around the Parliament in Budapest.

It is the most iconic building in the whole country with amazing history and therefore attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. It lies on the Eastern side of the Danube (Pest side), in the heart of Budapest.

The main part of the building was design in Gothic style alloyed with some Renaissance which was applied in the construction of the dome. It includes 691 rooms and the dome is 96 meter tall referring to the inauguration date, 1896.

The surrounding area was recently refurbished and now it is a pedestrian-only zone. The only vehicles you can see are the good old-fashioned yellow trams marching through Kossuth Square. It is a really nice area to walk around, there is even a visitor center underground and some other remarkable buildings in the vicinity.

After checking out the Parliament, make sure you go for a walk by the riverbanks where you can enjoy the beautiful views of the city.

Budapest is a great city to spend a few days, enjoy the history, culture, cuisine and the liveliness of the center.
