Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei claims his Daimond Trophy in the 5000m marathon.

With his new best split time Joshua Cheptegei was able to beat some of the best long distance runners in the 5000m. The competitions took place in Zurich Switzerland.

The Ugandan runner started off with more pace than most of his competitors to be able to maintain his edge through out the race.
He knew right away that he couldn't manage to beat the good Ethiopian runners like Telahun Bekele, Hagos Gebrhiwet, Barega and Kejelcha, like Telahun Bekele, Hagos Gebrhiwet, Barega and Kejelcha, like Telahun Bekele, Hagos Gebrhiwet, Barega and Kejelcha, with explosive speeds towards the end of the race. Last year's Champion Selemkn Barega also happened to be the competition to beat in this race.
So in about 300m the Ugandan star had taken the lead and he managed to maintain a great speed to beat some of the world's best runners in the 5000m department.
Cheptegei finished in a time of 12.57.41 beating his own record as the fastest he has ever ran in 5000m.
He was able to hung onto his win. He won the Diamond Trophy the 5000m of IAAF Diamond league of 2019.
