Increase your chances to travel to Space - 5 advice from astronauts!

This week I met two astronauts and talked about how to increase your chances to go to space, if your are not an astronaut. Imagine to see planet Earth from space, experience weightlessness and get new perspectives. Wow.

Going to space is definitely on my bucket list! Maybe on yours too?

I am a member of the board at the Swedish Space Society. We work to spread awareness and spark interest in space activity and new technologies. At a space conference I got the chance to talk a bit with two astronauts - Chiaki Mukai, Japan's first female astronaut, and Christer Fuglesang, the first swede in space. Here are their advice!

How to increase your chances to travel to space:

Learn a language

Preferably get really good at languages like English and Russian since they have large space programs.

Specialize

Niche in a profession like an engineer or a doctor. Or another profession that increase the chances that your unique expertise could be used for some experiments in space. For example I am really interested in how we can create sustainable eco systems, also in the cognitive aspects of experiencing and handle this special environment.

Become a team player

The capacity to co-operate with others is really important if you want to attend a spaceflight. A good idea is to work in projects where you can practice and show that you are a good team member.

Stay in shape

Keep yourself healthy and strong, both physically and mentally.

Or you can just become...

... incredibly rich. Do like the Japanese billionaire and entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa, the world's first space traveler that plan to travel around the moon 2023 with Space X Spacecraft and a group of artists.

Another alternative is to be patient and try your best to stay alive. Most likely, space travels will be much much cheaper within 20 years or so.

Do you think you will ever go to space?
