LeoGlossary: Dilution (Finance)

How to get a Hive Account

A term that means something is being watered down. This usually refers to ones holdings. For example, when more stock is sold by a company, the existing shareholders see their holdings diluted because there are now more shares on the market.

This has an impact upon things such as earnings per share which are also diluted. The same earnings divided by a larger amount of shares equates to a lower EPS.
