alternatetext

Atlas Shrugged: Part II is a 2012 American dystopian science fiction film directed by John Putch and starring Samantha Mathis, Jason Beghe, Esai Morales, Patrick Fabian, Kim Rhodes, and Richard T. Jones. The film is the second of three planned installments based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Ayn Rand.

The film picks up where Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 left off, with the world in a state of chaos as the government's oppressive regulations have led to widespread economic collapse. Dagny Taggart (Samantha Mathis), the head of a major railroad company, is still searching for a way to save her business and the world. She is also still searching for the mysterious figure known as John Galt, who is said to be behind a strike by the world's most talented individuals.

Hank Rearden (Jason Beghe), a brilliant inventor, has gone underground and is continuing to work on his revolutionary new type of steel. He is joined by other brilliant individuals who have also decided to strike against the government.

As the government's grip on the world tightens, Dagny and Hank must find a way to fight back and restore freedom to the world.

Atlas Shrugged: Part II is an adaptation of the second half of the novel. The film's themes of individualism, freedom, and the importance of the individual are as relevant today as they were when the novel was first published.

The film was a critical and commercial failure, grossing only $2.6 million against a budget of $20 million. However, the film has developed a cult following among fans of the novel.

The third installment in the series, Atlas Shrugged Part III: Who is John Galt?, was released in 2014.
