Since me and my wife's birthday falls on the same month, my parents took the both of us to a local delicatessen that serves food as well. It's actually in a mall nearby the area we're living in which I've never tried before but friends of mine that have gone, all recommend and speak of this place highly.
I guess one of the reasons is because the type of pork the use is some special breed as well as the famous Spanish imported meat called Iberico. The marbling of the meat and interlayer of fat and lean meat is absolutely delicious and melts in your mouth.
Iberico Jau with fries
The fries were done well and a good accompaniment to soaking up all the juices on the plate from the super juice and tender Iberico Jau. Although they're the inexpensive and trimmings of the pig but because it's Iberico, it tasted a 100x more flavorful than the local pork you get from markets. It was extremely flavorful and grilled perfectly.
Pork Sausage Platter
You can't always get sausages made from pork in Malaysia but when you do, oh happy day. The pork platter here at Village Grocer won't let you down if you're craving for sausages. You get 4 types of sausages all freshly made and in its natural casings. The snap biting into these links of meat were really something spectacular and the smokiness from the preparation of the meat really comes through in the flavor of the sausages. Really satisfying and delicious as well.
Bone-in Pork Shoulder
Probably one of the dishes that most people order. My table itself had 3 of us ordering it as our main. It was flavorful and the highlight of this pork chop was the beautifully rendered fat cap at the end. Man it was so juice and succulent really elevating the meat of the pork shoulder. Absolutely brilliant and the more affordable dish amongst the others.
Spaghetti Porklognese
This is basically a Bolognese but made with minced pork. Pork really makes everything better, even the classics 😁
Porchuito Parmesan Pizza 🍕
This was a really great piece of pizza. A little pricey for its size but definitely not short in the taste and flavor department. Was crispy, cheese was crusty on the outside and the meat was salty and savoury. Really thin crust and crispy. Good for sharing and an appetizer.
Not vegan friendly salad
Basically a healthy green salad topped with thinly sliced Iberico pork belly that has been crisped up in the oven. Not too bad but I would recommend the rest of the list instead.
Next time I dine at this place again, I'll be trying out their Iberico T-bone or their Iberico Pork Shoulder. Those are on the more premium priced items but after trying their other dishes, I think it'll be a real treat trying out the rest.
It was a little hard to take pictures here coz of the dim lighting and not a great mobile camera.
