Cheese Chips
We have just had a our second night of the Celebration of Lights in Vancouver: that is the second night of fireworks over English Bay.
I have seen dozens of these displays over the years and the flash is off the pan for me, but I do still enjoy seeing the lights of the boats gathered to watch the display at dusk against an indigo sky.
There are not just big booms, flashes, and sparkles in the sky, but also tons of food trucks, music, and corporate marketing. Honda is sponsoring the event; Red Bull hosts an air show; and Armstrong Cheese was there conducting a 'taste test'. First they asked for a whole lot of personal information and then they let you participate in the test. Lo and behold, I chose the Armstrong cheese. It didn't taste half bad, and I am a cheese aficionado. However, I did not appreciate that the other cheese, which remained unnamed, was a bit past the best before date. I tasted mold for the next 30 minutes.
We did get samples and one free product coupon for choosing Armstrong and comparing its taste to mold.
They have a new product of something called cheese nibbles. Cheese nibbles resemble cheese curds and come in three flavours: Natural cheese (whatever that is), smokey bacon cheddar(yum), and sour cream and onion. Basically they are a bag of mediocre cheese hunks. I have to be honest. I would never buy the product to slice open and eat as-if, unless I was really hungry. .
But it occurred to me that they might make some decent cheese chips. I am always looking for some low-carb snacks. I choose to try the smoke bacon flavour first. It was a very easy and quick process. Preheat to 200. Grab a pan and lay out a sheet of parchment on top. Empty the bag onto the parchment and separate the curds so they don't melt together. Put the cheese in the oven and let the cheese melt until it just starts to bubble, maybe 10 minutes.
Let the cheese cool and enjoy. I also sprinkled them with some ascorbic acid(vitamin C) powder to notch up its nutrient value.
It got a thumbs up from both me and minime. I will likely continue to buy the product ... on sale.
