Diets: #4 Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers -diet is something we’ve all heard about, at least the word itself. It's not about public weigh-ins and humiliation (which Sex and the City might have told us when we were younger). Instead of believing those old prejudices, let's find out what Weight Watchers is all about.

WHAT IS A WEIGHT WATCHERS -DIET?

Weight Watchers has been around for decades. Nowadays, it’s a diet plan targeting on lifestyle change. You can join the online community, go to meetings, or do both. The diet plan is advertised as a way to learn to live healthily, and stay that way. This diet also takes exercise into account.

WHY PEOPLE GO ON A WEIGHT WATCHERS DIET?

The name itself, Weight Watchers, tells it all. The diet is designed for people wanting to lose weight, and keep it off. Therefore, Weight Watchers -diet is more of a lifestyle change than a short-term diet.

WHAT CAN YOU EAT ON A WEIGHT WATCHERS DIET?

When joining the Weight Watchers community, foods are measured as SmartPoints, which are based on the nutritional value of the food. The more sugar and saturated fat a food has, the more points it gets. So, if you compare two little dishes worth of 300 kcals, one being a slice of pizza, and the other a salad bowl, which one you think has less points? Exactly, the salad bowl. Each member has a point target in order to lose weight, which vary based on your goals and starting point. Basically this diet is trying to teach you how to make healthy choices without restricting anything from your diet. However, I have no personal experience on Weight Watchers, therefore, I cannot say how reasonable the amount of points is (in other words, I don’t know is this one of the diets where you’re supposed to eat way too little).

PROS & CONS

Some diets may be pricey because of the foods you’re eating, but when you’re following the Weight Watchers -diet, you’ll pay for being a Weight Watcher. Some people find it better to have someone to be accountable for, and benefit this way of dieting. The price depends on how much guidance and meetings you want to have. You can do it completely online, which is cheaper, or participate in meetings and coaching, which is more expensive.

Weight Watchers can teach you about the nutritional value of foods; what is healthy, what is full of saturated fats etc. which is a very helpful feature in order to stay healthy. However, if you're someone who's had problems with eating before, I wouldn't recommend this form of dieting for you. You may start to see foods as points instead of food, and that's not desirable for your overall health. But if you've never struggled with eating, this diet may be beneficial to you. Nothing is off-limit, it's just all about hitting that point goal, and reaching your own goals in the terms of weight simultaneously. Weight Watchers also has a point count for exercising, FitPoints, which will hopefully keep you on track, and help you support the healthy lifestyle you're learning.

If you have any experience on Weight Watchers, I'd love to hear it! Feel free to comment down below! I hope you're having a lovely weekend! 😊
