Understanding of the Natural Forest is a forest overgrown with trees naturally and has existed since time immemorial. Natural forests that can survive without any human intervention or forest exploitation are called "Primary Forests". Well maintained primary forest is often called Virgin Forest or Virgin Forest. While forests that have been there human intervention in it or also natural disaster factors can form secondary natural forest.
Indonesia has a vast natural forest, but the day the natural forest continues to decrease. Some even say that Indonesia lost 1.6 - 2 million hectares of natural forest every year. Indonesia's natural forests are generally overgrown by Dipterocarpaceae species, which are timber species sold in the market, so this natural forest is the target of exploitation.
The composition of species of natural forest in Indonesia varies depending on the location where the forest grows. The types of trees in the natural forests of western Indonesia are different from eastern Indonesia although there are also species that spread from west to east. There are several natural forest vegetation zones in Indonesia, namely the western natural forest zone, the eastern natural forest zone and the middle or transitional zone.
