Top Selling Albums of the 1980's - Spot 95

Continuing the countdown at spot #95 is an album which I find difficult to categorize … and even more difficult to understand how the hell it made this countdown

In position #95 Miami Vice featuring soundtracks from different episodes of the smash hit TV Series of the same name with sales just over 4.1 million

Jan Hammer, a Czechoslovakia born keyboard player provided the slick musical component to the series. He first came to the public attention with The Mahavishnu Orchestra (I featured them as part of my Vinyl collection posts), but had his first number one single with the Miami Vice theme, a rare feat for a pure instrumental.

Glen Frey – You Belong to the City

The success of the album possibly hinges around the fact that each episode was almost a ‘music video’ as the two detectives went about their business!!
Add to that the inclusion of two previous number one singles In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins and Better Be Good to Me featuring Tina Turner may explain the sales …. but I still shake my head.

Jan Hammer – Flashback
Glen Frey actually made a guest appearance in one episode which led to further acting opportunities for the singer, including appearances in the Wiseguy TV series.

As always, thanks for stopping by and your support is fully appreciated
