In my first post, I am going to talk about our experience in Melaka.
WHY MELAKA ?
As we are staying in Bali, every two months we have to leave Indonesia because of the visa and immigration issues. So lets take advantage of this consequence and visit some other places.
Our flight was to KL and we had 3 days before we came back, so...we heard about Melaka, a little city next to the super crowded KL.
Melaka is the result of a mix of both Asian and European culture. The most emblematic buildings and the disposition of the city comes from the British, Portuguese and the Dutch influencer traders, but the way of life is a mix of Malaysians, Chinese and Indian people. A perfect formula to create a curious and very entertaining city.
So here I wanna share with you our recommendations, I hope you will use it someday !
HOW TO GET FROM KL AIRPORT TO MELAKA ?
There are many options to get from KL to Melaka but the easiest and cheapest way we recommend you is by bus. Buses are available from 7 a.m until 11 p.m at night, almost every 90 minutes.
Once you are in the KL airport you can ask for the bus counter ticket in TBS Terminal Bersepadu Selatan. Two good bus companies are KKKL Express or Transnational. The ticket is 13.00 RM per person and it is about 2 hours journey. The bus drops you in Melaka Central and it takes 5 min to arrive to the center of the town, the best option is to take the Uber service.
MUST DO IN MELAKA
Melaka is a city were getting bored is impossible.
Bukit China, is where you can find the most historical buildings. There we began our visit tour to St Paul’s Church, Porta de Santiago and the Chinese and Hindu temple. It is very funny to see all the historical area full of friky tricycles with pink colors and Hello kitty, Picachu and Doraemon everywhere.
After, we took a ride in the Menara Taming Sari attraction. It provides a nice panoramic view of the city, were you can observe the city from 80 m high ( colonial structures, the river, heritage buildings.…) .
We had lunch in Bukit china and tried the chicken rice balls, steamed chicken and fried pork.
After lunch, the sun was really strong and while we did a yummy digestion we took a Boat trip.
The Boat trip was really peaceful and nice. The surprise was to discover all the riverside houses full of graffiti's art.
Our day ended at Jonker Walk Nigth Market, it opens at 6 p.m until 12. You can find entire streets full of antique stuff, curious toys sellers and food hawkers. Delicious pastries and seafood are only some examples of the local food you can try.
So as you can see, our 24h in the city were entertaining, and sure we missed lots of activities!, but we will keep it in the drawer of our VISA run good memories.
