I joined this community a while ago, I haven't ever posted here though but I come around from time to time to check out the posts. Going through the contents made me understand why 
Markets are one of the places that can expose you to a people's culture, give you an idea of what their values are, showcase their artisanal prowess and a bunch of other insightful stuff. All this coming together from different parts of the world in one hive community is great as we all can experience different cultures without actually having to be there physically.

For this week's challenge I visited a good'ol grocery store. I don't visit the grocery store often as we usually get stuff we need from the local markets but my mum needed something from there so I volunteered to go.
This was a win win situation because people at the grocery store are more patient and friendly than people at the local markets and this made it more likely for no. 1 to work. It is optional, I know, but I wanted to try it anyway as I've never done something like that before.
One time at a local market, I attempted to take photos for market Friday but these people weren't having it. They didn't exactly say anything, they didn't even have to lol. The murderous looks I got made me put my phone away so the thought of even walking up to one person, asking questions and even asking for a photo is a little scary. I'll attempt that some other time, hopefully my unsuspecting victim will be a little warm and receptive to it.
I was lucky enough to meet someone nice on my little adventure yesterday;
Meet Goodness y'all (she's the one in red). She was really warm and friendly so talking to her wasn't difficult at all. When I was checking out stuff in one aisle she approached me and asked if I needed assistance I told her I didn't but I'd like her to do me a favour. When she agreed I told her I blogged and I'd like to ask her a few questions and possibly get a picture with her.
From what I gathered she's worked there for two years now. And within those two years she's shuffled between being stationed at the sea food aisles and the mini food court. We did more general small talk before I got someone to take a picture of us. I told her how grateful I was after we were done then I went to explore other parts of the store.
I've heard people say that vegetables were cheaper at the store compared to the local markets so I wanted to check it out myself. Unfortunately the vegetables didn't have price tags and I had to select the amount I wanted and get one of the workers to weigh it and put a price tag for that specific amount.
I aborted mission because doing it then was going to be a waste of the worker's time as I wasn't actually going to buy it and my curiosity wasn't enough to put someone through that stress.
Hopefully I'll be able to convince my mum to get the vegetables from there next time then we'll know if the rumors are actually true.
These are the things I found most beautiful in the store. The contrast is funny to me because on one hand we have fresh, absolutely healthy, God's beautiful gift to earth - fruits and on the other hand we have not so healthy, heart attack waiting to happen, butter cream frosting covered beauties - cakes.
Deciding on which one of them is more beautiful was difficult so I decided to post both as things I found most beautiful at the store. I eat both, I enjoy eating both so choosing one over the other feels wrong. The store has poor lighting so the pictures don't even do them justice.
While exploring I came across the aisle for kitchen appliances. There were different brands of blenders, mixers, cookers and other stuff but the one that caught my eye was this food processor. I've seen it being used in cooking tutorials and it is pretty efficient so I'd like to own one. I knew these appliances were expensive but I didn't know they were this expensive because the food processor costs 61,565 naira which is on the high side so this wins most expensive item in the market for me.
If I could afford it I wouldn't even buy it because I know I can find similar if not the same item at a cheaper rate somewhere else, like at a store that exclusively sells kitchen/home appliances. There are things I'd never buy from a grocery store and this is definitely one of them.
I bought two packs of 340g beef franks for 675 naira per pack, a pack of bacon for an outrageous price of 2,470 naira and some scotch bonnet peppers for 151.38 naira. It all amounts to 3,971.38 naira which leaves me with 179.92 naira as change from the 10$. 10$ equals 4151.30 naira. With proper planning and budgeting you'll definitely get more stuff for 10$ or less but I got those because those were the specific things I had to buy .
I had fun making this post and I'm absolutely looking forward to next week's challenge.
