I caught this bullfrog hanging out on the road in the morning near a swampy area. I've been looking for a bullfrog because I've been seeing lots of green frogs and wanted to do a comparison. American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) vs Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans).

Green Frog (Lithobates clamitans)

Green frog coloration can vary quite a bit. The easiest distinguishing factor is the ridge running from the eye all the way along the side of the Green frog. On the Bullfrog the ridge only runs a short way then turns down and stops.

This Green frog is in the creek that runs along side my yard.

In this shot, you can see the whole frog body under water.

Creek is a little aspirational. Its a swampy area with a small channel that runs most of the year.

Well camouflaged green frog. Sometimes you just realize how perfectly an animal fits into its environment 🙂

Speaking of camo...

Can you find both frogs and see the clumps of frog eggs?

Happy Frog Friday everyone!
