Walking along a lakeside: Actifit September 15 2024

I had the most wonderful day yesterday, on a return trip from a weekend at a writing conference. The conference was at resort in the woods about three hours from home so I took my time coming back, stopping at some small towns along the way. It is one of my favorite things to do and I especially love being in no rush. Since I was on this trip on my own, I didn’t have to worry about anyone else’s needs or desires!

So I stopped in the town of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, had lunch in a great little restaurant (which I’ll post about another time) and took a walk along the lakeshore.

There was a public beach for a portion of the shoreline, and then the rest was all private beaches. These all belong to the homeowners on the other side of the street that runs around the lake.

I’ve never seen this setup anywhere else before. Each homeowner had a small section of beach across the main road from their home, where they could have their own dock and a fire pit and some chairs where they could relax or entertain guests.

Each one was different. some people had an elaborate setup, and others simply had a few chairs. This one was quite interesting and decorative.

The weather was fascinating. As I walked along the public beach, the sky changed dramatically, sometimes looking stormy, and sometimes bright.

It was a very warm day and there were children playing in the water, enjoying the summer day, even as we head toward fall and cooler days.

There was even someone fishing off one of the docks, somehow looking both regal and forlorn.

I captured this next photo in a moment when the sun emerged from behind the clouds and illuminated these lovely bright red chairs.

Oh, to be free as a seagull!

Thank you for visiting!
