My Actifit RC: July 6th 23 - 'Fra Nuvolo's dream in Naples City centre - IAAC #396

A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.

In this hot morning of the first Thursday of July the heat begins to get serious and summer comes alive. However some rare cloud saves some ray of sun to the coriaceous citizens Neapolitans.

Lately, the subway line 2, escapes me for a few moments and I am forced to chase the carriages that are closing to take the train. I had a bad day this morning. Fortunately, after a few minutes, another subway arrived.

Attracted by this picturesque tree at the entrance of this narrow alley I infiltrate the streets that lead to the Sanità district. Another rather degraded area of the city that is coming to life thanks to tourism. Unfortunately there is a lot of work to do.

The first point of interest of the district is the monumental Palazzo San Felice with its spectacular courtyard setting of numerous films of the Italian film culture of 1900. I thank the two tourists who made my photo very expressive.

Second point of interest of the day this magnificent mural of Totò and Peppino. Antonio de Curtis said the Prince and Peppino de Filippo the two talented and undisputed phenomena of the art of Neapolitan theatrical comedy.

In the centre of the Sanità district stands the majestic and immeasurable beauty of the Basilica of Santa Maria alla Sanità. One of the main churches of Naples and architectural masterpiece of the Dominican friar named Fra Nuvolo.

The district or district Sanità takes its name from the painting dated between the fifth and sixth centuries of Santa Maria alla Sanità miraculously found by believers and kept in the early Christian church located in the center of the basilica.

The painting is believed to have thaumaturgic properties, according to popular beliefs, and those who touch it are healed.

At first glance it all seems very sober but the ecclesiastical building reserves an abnormal number of surprises that describe them all I would exhaust all the words allowed on the blockchain of Hive.

All the details are treated in detail and we can enjoy a church restored almost entirely. This monumental holy water font gives the idea of the nest of wonders in which it happened this morning.

Immediately this incredibly beautiful pulpit stands out to the eye. It will surely be the work of a very capable artist. Let’s see who is? Here! Dionisio Lazzari, who else could it be.

The church was built over this early Christian temple with attached catacombs.

It develops from underground and passes to this monumental staircase that leads to the apse.

In the apse there is a presbyter with an excellent organ and the whole that leaves you speechless without taking into account the wonderful frescoed dome.

One of the most beautiful paintings of the church and that I have ever seen and this Saint Thomas Aquinas receiving the chastity belt. Here is represented his kidnapping by his noble and wealthy family who tried to dissuade him from taking vows by organizing a meeting with a lovely girl. But here come the angels who through the intercession of God bring him the chastity belt that allows him to reject the temptation of worldly life.

This is the chapel of San Vincenzo Ferrer another patron saint of a dense host that in Naples have granted countless rescues. It, brought through the city streets, is believed to have stopped a sickle and deadly cholera epidemic. The canvas in the center is the work of the immense and prolific Luca Giordano. Moreover, his imprint of color is unmistakable in this painting.

The wonders have just begun and here we have a precious chapel of inestimable architectural value that depicts a circumcision of such a Giovan Vincenzo da Forlì.

And again this beautiful modern chapel with a modern statue of San Vincenzo Ferrer that is remembered every first Tuesday of July in memory of the procession of the statue of the saint that led to the miraculous arrest of cholera. Below we find the ribbons of the children of the mothers who are brought as a gift to this tireless saint so that their children can have a peaceful and prosperous life.

At the exit from the church we find ourselves again in the light of this beautiful square whose buildings are frescoed by magnificent murals and decorated with countless festoons of the recent league of soccer Naples that no one dares to remove.

Slowly I start to get out of this neighborhood that is taking the color of tourism and where you see all the good intentions to get out of decades of undeserved degradation.

Many churches are still closed and not restored.

At the exit of the district we are in front of the door of San Gennaro but it will be the beginning of another episode. In fact, the sun today is really too strong and unbearable and I have to go home.

We just have to get out of the apnea to which we were induced by the breathtaking views of the art of Neapolitan Baroque culture of the dream of 'fra Nuvolo and celebrate the iamalivechallenge 396

Finally, I would like to thank all my friends from the tribe of #Alive and all the new friends who happened between the lines of my stories for reading my thoughts and see you at the next #actifit report.
