The Friday Gold

When I got out of the army and decided to stop living in houses, I got rid of the first wave of army memorabilia. Most of what would remain was either functional, or had been pared down to the minimum. As it would later turn out, there was a veritable wealth of my army memorabilia I had left in my parents’ garage. That would be torched or given away later.

Anyway, as far as I was concerned out in Kansas, the Friday Gold was all I held on to. The Friday Gold, was that minimum. It’s name came from someone I worked with. Back then it was a tradition for me to wear my thingydoo here every Friday, and the name just kind of happened. This leather - whatever you call those shoe lace looking things - held all the memorabilia I kept as I prepared for my life on the road.

Most of the medals were issued to me by the army, but the Fedayeen medal was a gift from a friend over there. The little green glass bits you can see buried in there towards the middle are little ornaments from a miniature Christmas tree we had when I was little. I always loved that little glass tree, and my mom sent me those ornaments while I was gone. I wrapped them in wire and added them to the bundle. Got some other stuff on there too. None of it’s all that special to me any more, so I don’t mind hanging on to it for now - until it’s time to part ways…

Thanks for checking out some more of my work! As always, I hope you enjoyed witnessing as much as I enjoyed creating!
