Unity is a coffee shop and restaurant that also displays and sells vinyl records. It is an ideal place to get a quick coffee, to dine, or to work in. They are found in Escario Street, Cebu City; it is very easy to locate despite not being on the main road.
From the outside, the restaurant looks really good with a few outdoor seating. A lot of artsy coffee shops in Cebu City are small and that is what I am used to, so having to open their massive double doors was kind of intimidating for me.
Once you get in the restaurant, you are greeted by a high-ceiling dining area and minimalist interiors. A popular combination for interiors is stucco and wood and they adhered to that aesthetic.
They have a bar that you can order a variety of drinks from. They have plenty of options for coffee, liquor, and milkshakes. The bar is huge and well-organized in a manner that is pleasing to look at.
At the end of the bar is a space for video and audio control for instances where they play music from the vinyl records. When we went there, music was playing from the speakers and its corresponding video was projected onto the wall. I am not certain, but there might be instances where an actual DJ plays music for the restaurant.
There are stairs leading to the mezzanine where most of the vinyl records are displayed. We went up to look at the records and we were pleased because they have a good selection, very well-curated. A lot of classics are there: The Beatles, The Smith’s, Hendrix, and more. However, we expected more just because the word “vinyl” is part of their brand name. Still, I think it makes a niche interest available to their customers and gives character and uniqueness to the place.
My partner treated me to breakfast and coffee. We shared a big breakfast meal, the main contents included tapa, chorizo, and bacon; we paired it with salted caramel latte. It was really good, especially the tapa, we were very full when we finished it.
I liked that it came with fried bananas and caramelized onions on the side. For dessert, we had their lemon cheesecake; it had a tangy and citrus taste- a perfect accompaniment for the sweetness of the creamcheese.
Thank you so much for reading my blog; I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you give it a visit one day. Advanced Merry Christmas, everyone!
