Estoy pasando unos días en casa de mis padres, al igual que el año pasado decidí aprovechar las vacaciones escolares para visitarlos y acompañar a mi papá que está delicado de salud desde hace un año. El año pasado por estas fechas también viajé para estar con él casi un mes, esta vez solo vine por unos días.
Viajar desde el centro del país (Venezuela) hasta los andes venezolanos es toda una odisea y un viaje que hace unos años duraba unas 10 horas en autobús ahora es de hasta 15 horas. Compré el pasaje el lunes muy temprano. Ya que el año pasado el expreso no pasaba por el pueblo donde viven mis padres, este año no me molesté en preguntar y compré directamente hasta el pueblo más cercano, por lo que tendría que llegar y coger otro autobús para cubrir la hora de camino que me faltaba.

I am spending a few days at my parents’ house, just like last year I decided to take advantage of the school vacations to visit them and accompany my dad who has been in poor health for a year. Last year at this time I also traveled to be with him for almost a month, this time I only came for a few days.
Traveling from the center of the country (Venezuela) to the Venezuelan Andes is quite an odyssey and a trip that a few years ago took about 10 hours by bus is now up to 15 hours. I bought the ticket very early on Monday. Since last year the express did not pass through the town where my parents live, this year I did not bother to ask and bought directly to the nearest town, so I would have to arrive and take another bus to cover the missing hour of road.
Supuestamente el boleto era para las 7 de la noche, con un costo de 25$ hasta el Vigía (Mérida). Me imaginé llegar a la casa más tardar a las 8 de la mañana. Llegué al terminal y nada que llegaba el expreso (autobús buscama) llegó casi a las 8 de la noche porque venía de Caracas, fino, me pareció temprano, en el trámite de subir el equipaje y revisar la documentación de los pasajeros se llevaron una hora y salimos del terminal a las 9 de la noche. Hizo una parada en Valencia (Carabobo) y salimos de ahí casi a las 11 de la noche. Sacando cuentas ya había perdido las esperanzas de llegar a mi casa a la hora del desayuno.
El expreso estaba en buenas condiciones, tenía aire acondicionado, que bueno que siempre viajo con un abrigo y una cobija, así que dormí casi toda la noche. A las 3 de la madrugada hicimos una parada, no supe dónde estábamos, pero me baje para estirar las piernas e ir al baño, aunque se me fue un poco el sueño, después de arrancar me volvió a dar y dormir tres horas más.
Supposedly the ticket was for 7 pm, at a cost of $25 to El Vigia (Merida). I assumed I would arrive home later, at 8 am. I arrived at the terminal and nothing the express (bus buscama) arrived almost at 8 pm because it was coming from Caracas, well, it seemed early, in the process of loading the luggage and checking the documentation of the passengers it took an hour and we left the terminal at 9 pm. He made a stop in Valencia (Carabobo) and we left almost at 11 pm. I had already given up hope of getting home at breakfast time.
The express was in good condition, it had air conditioning, good thing I always travel with a coat and blanket, so I slept most of the night. At 3 o’clock in the morning we made a stop, I didn’t know where we were, but I got off to stretch my legs and go to the bathroom, although I got a little sleepy, after starting the bus I got sleepy again and slept three more hours.
Cuando empezó aclarar el día, el expreso comenzó a detenerse para dejar pasajeros en casi cada pueblo de la carretera, yo viaje por la panamericana y ese el único medio de transporte de las personas que vienen del centro del país hacia esta zona. Se hicieron las 8, las 9, las 10 y nada que veía que me acercaba a mi destino.
Llegamos al Vigía a las 11 de la mañana y todavía me faltaba camino que recorrer, lo bueno es que el autobús iba a pasar por mi casa, resulta que la ruta que el año pasado no estaba funcionando este año si, pero yo no me había dado cuenta porque cuando compré el boleto no pregunté. Ese fue mi error. El caso es que hablé con el chófer quien me cobró la diferencia del pasaje que fueron 5$ y de esa manera no tuve que bajarme y agarrar otro autobús, sino que llegue directo a las 12 y media de la tarde. No desayuné en mi casa aunque mi mamá me tenía desayuno, sino que llegue a la hora del almuerzo y también ya me había hecho almuerzo mi madrecita.
When the day began to get light, the express began to stop to drop off passengers in almost every town along the road, I was traveling on the Panamericana and that is the only means of transportation for people coming from the center of the country to this area. It was 8, 9, 10 o’clock and nothing I could see that I was getting closer to my destination.
We arrived at Vigia at 11 in the morning and I still had a long way to go, the good thing is that the bus was going to pass by my house, it turns out that the route that last year did not work this year did, but I had not noticed because when I bought the ticket I did not ask. That was my mistake. The thing is that I talked to the driver who charged me the difference of the ticket which was 5$ and so I didn’t have to get off and take another bus, but I arrived directly at 12:30 in the afternoon. I didn’t have breakfast at home although my mother made me breakfast, but I arrived at lunch time and my mother had already made me lunch.
Esa tarde me senté con mi papá a conversar de mi viaje de 15 horas. Todavía me quedan unos días para compartir con ellos antes de volver a mi casa con mi esposo y mis hijos. Lo he disfrutado y les seguiré contando en mis próximas publicaciones.
That afternoon I sat down with my dad to talk about my 15-hour trip. I still have a few days left to share with them before I return home to my husband and children. I enjoyed it and will continue to tell you about it in my next posts.
