This video is of our anniversary. Not the anniversary of the choir that just turned 18 this month, but the anniversary of our musical institution that in February turned 49 years old, I owed you a video of that concert that took place on February 17, I wrote a post then, but I had not uploaded a video because so much music was made that I had trouble choosing what would be best and then with the trip to Spain I had forgotten it, but the good thing is that today is #tbt Thursday and I can relive the moment and share it with you...
The man in the picture behind us in this photograph is Maestro José Antonio Abreu, the founder of the Sistema de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela, this great dream-making enterprise where I have been able to do with my life what I most wanted... Singing... The composition you hear in this video is his, a beautiful poetry turned into music and simply titled Madrigal. I wanted to share that little piece of our concert because I have concluded that it was the most special moment, at least for us singers.
That day we sang everything because it was a special concert, Beethoven, Estevez, Berlioz and so on, but the orchestra also had its solo parts. In the picture above you can see my tenor colleagues suffering the ravages of having to wait for the orchestra to play while we are sitting in the back. Maybe the audience hears beauty, but we were exactly behind the tympani, evidently our ears are affected 😅 but then we take revenge when it is our turn to sing and bathe them with the power of our saliva 🤣
Out of jokes, I wanted to share this particular video because it was a magical moment. The lights were dimmed for the orchestra and only we were illuminated at the end of the room and we performed this four-voice choral arrangement of our Maestro, who is no longer with us. It is a joy to pay such a great tribute to a musician whose great work has benefited so many Venezuelan artists, from Gustavo Dudamel to me, the last in the chain... The music is beautiful and I particularly sang with great passion every phrase of my melody. I love the moments when the lights go out and the soft music is the only one that shines, there it touches our soul and we touch the soul of the audience, it is an indescribable pleasure...
