Something has changed since the last time I wrote for the Wednesday Walk community, though sadly, there is also a constant that remains... I am no longer confined to my home; I’ve gone back to taking walks, sometimes with my wife, and occasionally with friends. I’m focusing on visiting places rich in nature and rural landscapes, even though I love the city and its towering buildings. The only downside is that no matter how often I go out for a stroll, my mood doesn't improve, in fact, it seems to be getting worse, yet perhaps these walks are what have kept me sane over the past two weeks.
After three months, we finally ventured back into hiking. As you know, I hadn't felt like doing it since the earthquakes, but we overcame that irrational fear; after all, people in Caracas were hiking up Mount Ávila while we remained terrified at home. The twist this time was that we took the Sabas Nieves II route, which is more challenging than my usual San Bernardino path, located much closer to home. However, the upside of traveling from the city center to Altamira is the beautiful scenery, like the images I’m sharing today, and the surprise we stumbled upon that day: three bears near the metro station.
This artwork is called Family of Bears (Familia de Osos), and it is located in Altamira’s Plaza Francia, on the south side of Francisco de Miranda Avenue. I visit this plaza often, yet I hadn't come across this particular spot before. I looked it up online and discovered the piece has been there since 2024 😜 It’s amazing that I hadn't noticed it sooner! Still, it was a delight to stumble upon this creation by visual artist Josué Benjamín Figueroa (IG: @mundodeplastilinadejosue) and snap some photos with them. These characters are fantastic, especially the largest bear, which is standing upright and holding its own phone to take a selfie with us. A little detail like this truly brightened our day right from the start.
These city walks might not have yielded the results I’m hoping for just yet, but simply getting started is a great step forward. Eventually, the tough times will pass, so I want to focus on the positives and the beauty surrounding me. This place is stunning, perfect for connecting with others and with nature. Spending that brief time taking photos with my wife and the bear family truly made me forget everything else; even though it was short, it was a wonderful start. The day overall was full of fun adventures and stories I’ll share in another post 🤭 Thanks for reading and for your support, wishing you all a fantastic mid-week...
