Mahawu volcano my climbing with 11+ pictures

Indonesia travel memories

Sitting here in cold Europe during the ugly wet winter weather, I think it is time to go back the memory lane to some nice travel I did during the year 2023.

I love travel Indonesia, and this year we went up north of the island Sulawesi. Mainly for the reason of Diving, but as well to see a bit more from the countryside and the local people and markets.

Overall this area is not a very touristy area, but it has some very nice places, some nice markets, some nice nature parks, and as well a few volcanoes to climb.

Hey Hive Family
and let us travel the world again
today northern Sulawesi, Indonesia

Facts about Mahawu

Mount Mahawu is a stratovolcano in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, rising to 1,324 m above sea level. It is noted for its 180 m wide and 140 m deep crater, which sometimes hosts a small lake, and two pyroclastic cones on the northern flank. The volcano has had small explosive eruptions, with the most recent activity in 1994, including fumaroles, mudpots, and small geysers. It's less active than its neighbor, Lokon-Empung, and its historical activity has been mostly restricted to small explosive eruptions recorded since 1789

The way up

After we arrived at the parking place, there were some nice signs, and a very easy, looking way to walk up to the top of the mountain.

Easy walking?

Less comfortable walking

As usual, the pass up to the top changed quickly to something, - let’s say - more interesting climbing, and going to the top.

After some more minutes, we as well get a bit more wet air, so-called fog as we are already on the high of 1300 m above sea level.

Top of the volcano

We reached the top and you see a happy traveler rising his arms.

This was a nice walk and a lovely view to the volcano.

The way back to our car was a bit faster, but due the medium conditions of the treck, it took some time, as you have to watch each step.

Where is this place?

As usual, I like to add my #Pinmapple map and some more info.

Diving North Sulawesi

For diving in North Sulawesi, Lembeh Strait is the go-to for muck dives and unique sea creatures. Divers can encounter a variety of species like wonderpus, Rhinopias, and flamboyant cuttlefish. Bunaken and Bangka offer views of dolphins, pilot whales, green sea turtles, and colorful reef fish. The best time for diving is during the dry season from July to October when water temperatures are cooler

Stay tuned for some more travel from Indonesia by @detlev

There are some Tana Toraja stories, some more Diving and a visit to a harbor waiting to be told. Only laziness stops me as each of this post eats at least one or two hours of time.

Have a great day everybody
and let us travel the world again
