I've always loved doing stuff outdoors to clear the brain for a bit. Whether it is is outdoor in de snow while hiking up somewhere, or rapidly heading down that same mountain. Or snorkling in the ocean somewhere, or in this case:
Kitesurfing.. I picked up my old hobby again and it is funny how focus can be so big and present, and most of the time unintentially.
Do you know those yoga breathing excersizes? The ones where you breathe in for 4 seconds, and breathe out in 4 seconds. Then inhale for 4 seconds again, hold the breath, exhale again in 4 seconds and then hold the breath.
The way to make your breathing deeping and the focus on it even more. The way to fall asleep when you are busy in your head with stuff. The way to let go of all of these daily thoughts and sink a bit further away in the consiousness...
It always sounds so good...
But the reality is that it is so hard to escape daily thoughts because there is always so much going on and so much to think about. The yoga madame always says this is a skill you will not develop in a day, you have to practise it.
Well I practise it when I do something else. I was on the water with my kite again since the longest of times. The skills were sunk down not just a little, but I was wondering if I still had it in me at all anymore.
While going through the theoretics again it felt like I had forgotten everything and total rookie level was back.
But then I took my board....and just took off like it was yesterday. The kite was creating the momentum, the speed came there, and we just left.
And while the water was shifting away under my board there was no focus for anything else anymore. Just me and the kite and the wind.. (and the crashing afterwards ofcourse because I was so surprised that I immediately had taken off, swallowing tons of salt sea water neay choking me to death)
It felt like the first rides on a slopen again with ski's. Focussing on where the routes are and where you want to make your turn and your feet start doing the rest of it.
No theoretics can explain on how you should make a natural move. You just feel when the movement it good. All there was was the water and the wind.
That is better than any meditation on earth. That is what I seek in travel, finding warm water to do these kinds of things to relax the brain.
The ultimate savasana.
