In India, many types of halwa are made on different occasions. Suji halwa, besan halwa, aata halwa made very often in india. But moong daal halwa is one that not made often in india. We made this halwa on very special occasion or celebration. So, this time on Diwali which is a big indian festival we made this halwa.

Moong daal halwa is a traditional indian dessert made with moong lentils, sugar, ghee , mawa and lots of dry fruits.

Ingredients:

Moong daal( green gram lentil) 500 gram
Ghee 1/2 litre
Sugar 1/2 kg
Milk 2 litre
Dryfruits : one bowl
Food colour one pinch

Saffron

Method:

Preparation:

  • First we have to make mawa/ khoya.
For that take a large pot or wok and start boiling the milk.

  • Keep stirring it . Till it reduces to solid.

It took time more than 60 minutes.

This process need patience and constant stirring .

  • Mawa/ khoya looks like that. This is a special ingredient for indian dessert.

  • Wash the moong daal trice or more and soak it for 3-4 hours.

After 4 hours if looks liks that.

  • Now Drain the water complety.

  • Then add the daal in the blender jar and make a fine paste. Don't add water while blending. The perfect texture is so important for that halwa.

Making halwa:

  • Heat ghee in a wide pan.

I captured a selife while ghee turns hot 😜

  • When the ghee turns hot add grind moong daal. Keep the flame low. Keep stirring and incorporate the ghee into the moong dal mixture.

  • Now keep stirring at the medium flame.

Keep breaking the lumps and continue stirring till it turned golden and aromatic.

  • Now add Mawa when daal turned golden brown and soked the moisture.

  • you can add milk instead of mawa. But i always prefer mawa because mawa makes the halwa more rich and delicious 😋
Mix the mawa well and cook for around 15 minutes. And add some dryfruits.
After that remove the mixture in a large vessel.

Look at the colour this is the perfect colour and texture of moong daal halwa.

  • Now it's time to make sugar syrup to make halwa sweeter.
I put the sugar in the same pan and add water. You can add food colour if you want.

  • On medium flame continues stir the sugar until it dissolved completely.

  • After it mix the mixture in the sugar syrup.

  • Mix properly and turn off the flame.

  • Now garnish with dry fruits and these types of silver paper.

  • Halwa is ready to enjoy 😋
