Uno de mis libros favoritos ///// One of my Favorite Books.

Spolier Alert. - Spolier Alert. - Spolier Alert.

A Monster Call by Patrick Ness is considered a novel for children, anyone would think that the plot is the basics of that genre, traditional beginning, knot with some problems and happy ending, but no, this book from the beginning shows the problems and the outcome is anything but happy.

It begins with Conor having a nightmare, which was already recurring to him, just at 7 minutes after 12 at night, the one of the darkness and the wind and the screams, he had not told anyone, not even his parents well their relationship with them was somewhat dysfunctional, their father had gone to another country, with another family and their mother suffers from cancer.

One night he hears that they call him, it was not his mother or a relative, he goes to the window and observes as a monster with a humanoid appearance but between mixed with a giant tree, the church yew tree, he is next to his window, they have a Unfriendly exchange of words as Conor told him he was not afraid.

In the next chapter we find out that he is bullied by a group of three children, but a girl named Lily always tries to help him even though she is constantly rejecting her.

Pages later the monster reappears, he tells him that he is going to tell him three stories and the last one a fourth is going to be told by Conor to him. To "lighten up" the situation comes his maternal grandmother, with whom he has a cold and distant relationship, here we realize that Conor denies the situation his mother is in.

The monster makes its arrival and tells him the first story, of how a king killed his wife, which does not have much impact on him, but with the second he changes completely, because it leads him to totally destroy his grandmother's living room, it was about a priest, his daughters and a healer and the third about an invisible man who causes Connor to leave one of his stalkers very badly hurt.

Chapter by chapter we can see Connor's emotional wear and tear, disappointment and sadness that his father does not spend time with him, as his mother constantly lies to him about his illness. The ending made me cry too much, although it was predictable what was going to happen, but it does not mean that the way he describes the situation is harsh

Personally, the book came to me in a very deep way, the narrative makes you hooked despite the situations that are shown, it makes you reflect on many things, the emotional impact in some chapters can be very strong if you are a sensitive person, but the messages left by the plot and even the tree stories that can become somewhat questionable are wonderful, it is one of my favorite books because it had a very big emotional impact. It should be noted that it is illustrated, the drawings are simply beautiful, it is worth reading.

I do not have a single favorite book, I have a complete list of which I have equal affection, because they are genres, stories, writers and other factors totally different from each other that cannot be compared between them, but without a doubt A Monster Calls is one of those books that can leave you hours and hours thinking and reflecting.
