One thing about life is, if you want to be successful, do not always do what others are doing.
If you follow the crowd to do what everyone else is doing, you will all have to share from the same pot of soup, and in the end, everyone will get a smaller share or even nothing because of how many people are competing for it.
I have been brainstorming about the kind of business to open for my wife in the new location, and she said she wanted to start selling provisions. But it does not look like something that will be profitable in the long run because of the number of people already into it here.
On one street, you can see up to two or three provision sellers. In my own street, we already have two facing each other, and when you walk to the junction, there are another two there.
It is beginning to look like we have more sellers than buyers now, unlike in the past when there was only one seller supplying the whole street and beyond. That made the business more profitable for the seller because there was less competition.
Nowadays, everyone wants to venture into business, and this is one of the reasons people keep complaining about low sales.
So I told my wife to abort mission and think of something else that people are not already doing there.
Another thing is the issue of light.
My tenants and neighbours told me about their trick of pumping water at midnight when there is less usage because most people are asleep. I kind of doubted if that trick would last for a long time because the idea was already circulating.
Last night, I tried to pump water at midnight, but the current was still low, and my theory was proven right.
It seems everyone else is also waiting until midnight to do their own things.
This is why, to win in this life, you have to be willing to do the opposite of what others are doing.
Rush when others are skeptical, and be skeptical when others are rushing.
Though this does not apply in all cases.
