“Ha ha ha! This is unbelievable!”, Michael burst into laughter as he took a look at the second page of the photo album. Mide already knew something unpleasant was coming his way. Right from when they were in primary school, Michael had always made him the butt of his jokes, especially in front of the girls. Although he had always managed this with some maturity, even when he was a kid, somehow it always ended in tears for him. He’s getting fed up with the continuous taunts. To make matters worse, they attended the same secondary school.
It's been years since Mide and Michael lost contact as friends. Somehow, one of their secondary school colleagues managed to organize a reunion party, which got all of them together again. It’s been about 7 years since they left the secondary school. Almost all members of their sets are university graduates, and some were masters at the art they learned. They danced, ate, and had a good time. The party finished early enough so everyone from a far distance could have the time to travel back to their destination. It was also an opportunity to have after-party activities. Michael acted all nice at the party and was able to make Mide spit out a lot about himself, including the “scoop”, that his house is not far from the reunion venue! Mide knew something wasn’t right about Michael’s ‘new character’ but he decided to flow with his new personality and concluded in his mind, “People change; don’t be too insecure!” Even after the words of “affirmation”, something in his head kept telling him he had said too much. His fear was confirmed after the whole party, when Michael started showing his real nature and stylishly put Mide in a tough spot. “Hey ladies, who would love to see Mide’s wonderful apartment?” which everyone at their table welcomed as a good idea and a good way to end the meeting. Mide couldn’t turn his old clique down. So, he accepted the request. Their clique from secondary school is made up of seven pupils. 3 guys and 4 girls. The last man is Taiwo, who has a twin sister (named Kehinde); she always loves rolling with the group, and the three other ladies are Titi, Tope, and Tolu. Taiwo and Kehind brought their dad’s car and offered to drive the whole group to Mide’s house.
Mide was totally unprepared for the visit but had to put himself together. On their way home, he thought of what he could do to keep his friends busy while figuring out how to entertain them. Then he gave a subtle grin, as if he had found a way out of his troubles. His primary and secondary school photo albums came to mind.
As earlier stated, after checking the second page of the photo album, Michael laughed in disbelief and remarked, “who would believe that a boy with phlegm all over his nose would turn out to be a tall, good-looking guy today”, “I hope you also lost some dumb attitude too”, he added. Just like old days, this is where they start to take turns on Mide. “I can’t believe that time he thought goats could talk and wanted to learn the meee language”, Taiwo added, as they all burst into laughter. As the other ladies were about to make their own derogatory comments, Mide couldn’t believe he actually did what Taiwo said. For the very first time in his life, he was amused at his own mistake. Although an innocent one, how could he be so dumb to have done that? He left what he was about to do in the kitchen and appeared in his leaving room, looking sober, and this caught the attention of his friends. After he’s sure they all have their eyes fixed on him to know what is wrong. “I think I still want to learn the meee language”, he said. They all burst into laughter and didn’t allow him to go back to what he was doing. They played and reminisced on the past till it was almost night and they had to bid their farewells. Mide couldn’t believe he didn’t have to plan anything at the end of the day.
