Every mid of the year was a great celebration in our community. We celebrate the great goddess of water -Wagi. She was the most kind of other goddesses who loved and was helpful to humans. She built a healthy relationship with humans too especially when she came in her human form but she fell in love with a human against the wishes of her family.
Marcus was his name.
He wasn't from our town but he settled in our town. He had gone to the river to wash his clothes, a little later than everyone else. Maybe he didn't know or maybe he didn't ask questions, indigenes are not meant to be at the river till 7pm. It is believed that Wagi and her family come out to the shore to have a bath. After washing, Marcus took the opportunity to have a bath and jumped into the water, he hadn't even gotten to a large depth, when he began struggling for his life. He couldn't see what he struggled with but it was quite intense and he was alone at the river. Slowly he lost consciousness but woke up at the bank to find the beautiful lady beside him.
"How do you feel?
You were drowning and I saved you, she said smiling at him"
'Well, thankyou I thought I had died after the battle I faced in the water, my head is seriously banging. Thank you so much for giving me a second chance to life', Marcus mumbled
This was the beginning of a massive love story.
She became more frequent on earth and he did same to the river. It was strange as to why Marcus didn't have a problem falling in love with a goddess.
You must stop visiting that mortal, her mother said
That mortal is my life, he make me happy, Wagi replied
Weren't you happy before you met him? her mother replied.
"Well, he makes me happier", she replied
"You are getting married to Fray - God of fire, so you had better retraced your steps"
"Never would I have anything to do with that arrogant person talk less loving or marrying him, she replied I love Marcus and I choose to be with him, not you or anyone else will stop me, she added to swam off.
Coming to the surface, she still went to visit Marcus. Findingaaa comfort on his shoulder she wept and told him all that had transpired between her mother and herself. Marcus felt sad about this but reassured her of his unending love.
Her sadness caused the rivers, oceans and streams to gradually dry up and the land began to suffer. The Almighty was concerned and summoned her immediately and she tendered her plight.
My master, love cannot be controlled and I found building something special with a mortal, I clearly understand the price and I am willing to pay, she said.
Does this mortal love you too or is after that which you are capable of? He asked
He loves me so much, she replied
Them we must test him, he added.
The Almighty had to transform as a mortal to visit Marcus who proved beyond all reasonable doubts his love for Wagi. He returned back to Wagi, you both love each other on the same frequency. He said
Since Wagi has decided to give up her powers for love, he said to her parents,. Not any one of us can do anything about this relationship.
