The Man in Zuma~Monthly Contest in The Ink Well: Prompt #Lock

There was a small village named Zuma, this village is noted for big rocks and mountains. Zuma villagers hold great pride in this beautiful nature they have been endowed with. Zuma is a village you can't come to fight because before you finally get to the heart of the village, you are already weak to fight leaving yourself in the hands of people. The mountains and the hills are their defense.

There lives a woman in another village named Roseline. She has been going through emotional and physical abuses from her husband. She had thoughts of escaping the village to her parents' village which is very far from her husband's place. The closest village from there was Zuma but when she remembers how many mountains and hills, she gives up.

In Zuma, there lives a blacksmith named Zelda. He had remarkable skills and was known to be good at what he does. The villagers go up the mountain whenever they want to do any metal work. One quality of Zelda is that he talks less and gives best.

One day, Mrs Roseline and her husband began their usual husband and wife banter which at the end left Mrs Roseline with bruises and wounds on her face and other parts of her body. This left Mrs Roseline with no choice than to visit Zelda. Not minding how discouraging and tiring visiting the mountains would be, she began to make her plans.

She waited till her husband left the house, she packed her belongings into her two box. The only problem was that one of the boxes had no lock which is why she had to go to Zuma for Zelda to create her a lock for the box.

After a journey to meet Zalda. Roseline told him how she had heard numerous stories from different people and that has encouraged her to come all the way to Zuma for hers. After hearing all the praises, Zelda knew he needed to give Roseline what she would appreciate.

He told her to give him five days and come back the next week for the lock. She became more open to him and told him the story of how abusive her husband had been towards her, what her plan is and also how important her belongings are to her, she had to made her way to Zuma. Zelda, who felt pity on her after hearing her story, accommodated her to stay with his wife in her hut for the five days when the lock would be ready.

He began working on it, putting all his creativity into play. He wanted to give her a lock that only Roseline can operate with a beautiful design no one has had. He had to use the finest metal to create the lock. It took him days of hard work and commitment. On the fifth day, he rounded off the lock.

It was a mystery to Roseline who was excited about the lock and confused on how to go about opening the box. Zelda directed her and told her the lock is unbreakable but he had made multiple keys for it. He handed over the box with the keys an informed her she can choose to use lock code or the manual method. He told her the lock codes and how to make changes in case she doesn't want to make use of keys.

Roseline was super excited, got the lock and keys from Zelda and appreciated him with extra cash for the work well done. She communicated with her family through a letter who after hearing her story agreed she could come over and stay until her husband understands the meaning of marriage.

As she journeys down, the lock attracted looks of appraisal and inquiry about how to locate Zelda's house when they get to Zuma village. Zelda gained recognition in his Craftsmanship. He used his skills wisely and had many who willingly came to learn crafts.

The recognition and height this skill placed Zelda made him realize that something done with all efforts no matter how small could make a huge difference in one's life.
